Copy/paste "empty" region from Select Page Region tool SOLVED

Hi Support,

Using "Select Page Region" + Copy (Ctrl+C)...

If the selected region has some text -> text will be copied and pasted:

Example:

PDF-XChan
This license agreeme
Standard, PDF-XChan
and components for w
This agreement is bet
is willing to grant you
Editor, PDF-XChange

(if pasted into an image editing software: image will be pasted - nice)

Now, if the next selection is "around an empty space":

Result:

Expected result: empty/no text pasted (also the image pasted will be from the previous selection).

So: selection + copy over an "empty" space does not clean your internal clipboard.

Are there many apps which will "clear" your clipboard when you have nothing selected and push the copy button (Ctrl+C)?

In testing here, none that I have locally seem to do so. Even those like MS Word, and web browsers all seem to respect and leave your current clipboard content intact, if nothing new would be added to it when initiating the copy action.

I cannot think of what scenario it would be useful to remove the previously copied content other than to overwrite it explicitly, and this seems to be the norm for clipboard handling as far as I can tell..

I can agree with you to some extent. But PDFX Editor is not Word or WebBrowser.

That's where we do not agree

I have selected a region on a page. No text/graphics in that region does not mean that I have "selected nothing". I have selected something: if no text inside the rectangle then textual (CF_TEXT) paste should be "" (empty) and the image (CF_BITMAP) dimension should be what I selected (and not what was previously selected/copied when it "had" content).


As far as I know, in Word, the way to select a rectangular area is to hold CTRL + ALT and drag a rectangle:

But if you do the same over an "empty" region:

The copy/paste will be "" (empty).


From my point of view, in PDFX Editor, the "Select Page Region" is similar to the Snapshot tool - snapshot does auto-copy (of graphics) when a region is selected - and you can paste in an image editing software.

Using Snapshot and making a rectangle over an empty page area : paste of the image will always paste last copied section - in terms of dimensions of the image. Image is "empty" - but has last copied dimension.
