Disable Icon Toggles SOLVED

I made a custom toolbar, full of buttons, to spread the look of the ribbon out across the program, to make it look balanced.
There is the page dark mode button on there. It's pretty useful; some pdf's benefit from the color override, some don't.
But it has the most annoying toggle highlight.

I wonder if there is some way to disable the button being highlighted by that blue box. Or have dual icons for toggle buttons. This one I would have a light moon for disabled and a dark moon for enabled. Or a sun and moon or something like that.

At the moment, we do not plan to implement an icon swap for features like this, but you can control the "highlight" color that that is used. I personally like the appearance of a black highlight color, though many darker color options can look good without being too visually offensive:
