Highlight Destination Visual Effect Delay in Fullscreen Mode

Post by rakunavi »

=== UPDATE ===================================================================
The issue reported below has been resolved in Ver 10.8.3 build 408.
I appreciate all the hard work and efforts of the support and development team.
==============================================================================

Hello all,

Starting from build 405, the newly added "Highlight Destination" feature displays a visual effect on the destination page after clicking a link or bookmark. This visual effect normally appears immediately upon navigating to the destination page. However, I have observed the following issues when repeatedly returning to the source page using Alt+Left and clicking the same link again while in fullscreen mode:

  • The visual effect on the destination page is delayed and does not appear immediately after navigation.
    • The visual effect does not appear at all after navigation. In such cases, if the user scrolls to a different page using PageUp, PageDown, or the mouse wheel and then returns to the intended destination page, the remaining portion of the visual effect is displayed.
    For testing, I used three GoTo links pointing to pages 5, 6, and 7 from page 1, and checked the behavior of the "Highlight Destination" visual effect.

    • sample.pdf
    The first video demonstrates the behavior in normal (non-fullscreen) mode, while the second video shows fullscreen mode. Everything works correctly in the first video. However, in the second video, please note that the visual effect sometimes fails to appear immediately after clicking a link and navigating to the destination page.

    Normal (non-fullscreen) mode

    • video1.webm

    Fullscreen mode

    • video2.webm

    Please note that during the process of verifying the above issue, switching between full-screen mode and normal mode while the highlight destination is active may cause the application to crash. This matter has already been reported in the following topic.

    Hoping that the above information will be of some help to you.
    Thank you so much for your continued support.

    Best regards,
    rakunavi

    Re: Highlight Destination Visual Effect Delay in Fullscreen Mode  SOLVED

    Hello rakunavi,

    Thank you for the report.

    Testing this setup- it seems to be reproducible only if the page switching is quite faster. Under my normal review speed this did not happen in Fullscreen mode.

    I will bring this to the attention of the developers.

    Once we get their feedback I will update this post.
    Best regards,

    Hello Jordan, thank you for looking into this.

    As you mentioned, if you stay on the page for at least about three seconds—enough time for the visual effects to finish—after clicking the link and the page transitions, you won’t be affected by this issue.

    However, this limitation becomes apparent when you already have a general understanding of all the pages and you click on multiple links from a single page to grasp the rough differences between them before settling down to read one in detail. At least in my case, I didn’t discover this issue while trying to find bugs—it’s something I frequently encounter during everyday document browsing, and it’s been on my mind ever since I reported the crash issue. Now that I’ve been able to narrow down the conditions under which it occurs, I decided to report it.

    Regardless of whether the medium is analog or digital, it’s quite common to refer back and forth between pages in a short span of time. Since I often switch to full-screen mode when I’m deeply focused on reading materials, the difference in behavior compared to normal mode might stand out even more to me.

    Please give my best regards to developers.

    Best regards,
    rakunavi
