Stamp size [Question]+new [Suggestion] on default size

Post by MedBooster »

I'm not sure if this is a new feature of version 371, or when this was implemented....

I noticed that the size of stamps are actually based on the last size you chose. AND this is great when you're working in different documents of different sizes... It's also great that the size is retained even when switching between different stamps.

However, I am still wondering; is there a way to enable/disable (toggle) this feature? ...

I remember that the stamp size would be fixed, based on the size that you saved...

Don't get me wrong it is appreciated, *ESPECIALLY WITH DYNAMIC STAMPS* (which you were previously not able to change the size easily...) but might be a bit annoying when you have a specific size... maybe there is a reset button or something that I have not noticed yet? To return to the default stamp size...

Hello MedBooster,

I could not figure out a way to toggle this either - so I've asked colleagues from the dev team if this can currently be toggled, and if not - I will make the necessary Feature Request ticket for this.

Kind regards,
Stefan

Great

It might be that a "default" size is not a thing anymore?
I guess it makes sense... unless you would be able to change the pixel width or something by editing a given stamp in the stamp library.

Hello MedBooster,

Still awaiting the feedback from our devs - however it is more likely than not that once you've resized a stamp - you will need the next copy of it with the same size, so even if this becomes toggable - it will likely stay as default as it is now.

Kind regards,
Stefan

Though the new way is generally more useful...

some way to toggle it on and off (like you said)
and a way to more easily change the pixel width/height of stamps in your library (as mentioned)
would be great :)

Hello MedBooster,

Just created the ticket for the request from your initial post in this topic:
#6581: FR: Ability to be able to toggle the "Remember last used stamp size".

And by "Change the pixel width/height of stamps in your library" - do you mean the size of the stamp previews as shown in the Stamps Palette, or the actual initial size of stamps? As if the second - you can edit the stamp collection, and make the page size and any content on it larger - and this will increase the initial stamp size.

Kind regards,
Stefan

Any news on this? How do you actually "reset" the stamp size to the "correct" size

Btw. if you use the "incorrect" size and export the PDF , does the resolution of the stamp also get decreased?

Hello, MedBooster

We added this in quite a few builds ago now, you can configure this from the stamps "palette > options":

Thank you.

If you don't mind me asking, what software are you using to annotate your screenshots like this? I am looking for an alternative to ShareX which wouldn't make my cursor look gigantic.

Hello MedBooster,

I am not sure about Dan, but I use MS Paint really ;)

It's just simple drawing of rectangles and lines for me and Paint is good enough and quick enough to do the job. There might be other paid for products that will offer a few more features, but there are advanced free alternatives like GIMP (but that is a full featured image software that will likely take some learning on it's own).

Stefan

Please check out these stamps ↑

Why is it that some are smaller and others are larger, while the resolution seems to be about the same.
Are some vector based, and others not?

Do you see what I mean by "resolution" ?

How can you actually view pixel size of document pages? The "ruler"-tool is not for this right? This is just the physical size when you print the document, right?
I assume this is what determines the "default" size of stamps when reset, like you showed in your screenshot.

Hello MedBooster,

When you are creating your stamp collections you do assign a default size to each stamp, and it would seem that in this sample collection of yours some of the stamps were just created huge to start with.
You can try to resize them in the collection and see if that will help?

Kind regards,
Stefan

[NEW SUGGESTION]
It would be great to have another option;

to set one or more selected stamps to a specific pixel width!

As a temporary solution I guess you could make a rectangle shape or something to get the approximate size right (if you want 10+ stamps placed to have the same size, without actually being the same width in the stamp PDF file), but an option to set one or multiple stamps to the same width would be a great addition.

Re: Stamp size [Question]+new [Suggestion] on default size

Hello MedBooster,

That default size is determined by the stamp collection and the dimensions of the stamp in there. If you want that updated - you need to resize it accordingly. We need to do it that way to conform to the respective specification requirements. And if you want the temporary different sizes you can turn back on the "remember last used stamp size" feature. I do not think that there are any plans for changes to how those things currently work.

Stefan

What is the best way to resize the stamps in the PDF file (for the stamp collection) in that case

(currently), we have discussed this slightly in the past...

Unironically, I use ShareX myself. It has a great number of configuration options, and once you have it setup right, things go very nicely. I use the same for my Gif Recordings as well. One key feature that I frequently toggle on and off for added clarity in my screenshots, is the option to entirely "hide" the mouse from the screenshot being edited. If you are already using ShareX, I would not be surprised if they have a "mouse scale" option hidden somewhere (or you can manually place a mouse cursor stamp and scale it manually), you'll likely just need to spend some more time in its multitude of settings areas to find it.

As for the more recent discussions, to my knowledge there is no way to edit the default size of a stamp, beyond leaving our option to "place stamp with last used size" enabled. If you wish to change the default size, you would need to re-create the stamp, using a smaller set of original content items.

even not resizing the "default" size by somehow changing the scaling of the pages in the PDF of the collection in the appdata folder?

Any ideas on how to do this?

Hello, MedBooster

Correct, any form of page editing to the Stamp PDF file will be in vain, as the details of the stamps are recorded on creation. The only way to adjust this is to re-create the stamp itself. The simplest way to do this would be to open the original stamp file, remove the dynamic content, so it does not clutter your file, then resize the page as needed. After that, use the "new stamp from file" feature. This will generate the stamp with the new default scaling attributes tied to that item at its current size. You can then edit this new collection, and add the previous dynamic content back in. In much the same way as I mentioned in my other post relating to merging stamp files.
TrackerSupp-Daniel wrote: Thu Nov 28, 2024 11:26 pm To my knowledge, it is not possible in any way to merge two disparate Dynamic-Stamp PDF files. The process of creating the stamps, and why it is so important to extract and directly utilize the originally created Stamp file is because there is document specific metadata included in the stamp document that is not present in a normal PDF.
By Extension, it should be noted that any modification/insertion of the pages, page positions, etc, should NEVER be done in a Stamp file, as it could damage that metadata, and render your stamps unusable. This data cannot be carried over or modified through normal PDF editing processes. As such, you will need to manually add the non-dynamic content to the stamp.
This process would include:
  1. Create stamp from file > Choose the collection you plan to move into another, note that the dynamic content WILL be removed.
  2. Choose the target collection you wish for those pages to be added to.
  3. Proceed with normal dynamic stamp editing processed, copying the dynamic content items from the original stamp, into the new one.
**IMPORTANT - If any of your stamps used a Stamp ID to limit when its JS runs, you WILL need to update that, as the stamp ID has changed in this process. If you simply copy/paste the field without editing the JS to use the new ID, your JS will not execute.
