Strange arrow tip style with PDF-XChange Editor but not in Edge or other PDF viewers

Post by ExplorerQwQ »

This is the PDF file:
mwe.pdf
Which generate by `tikz` in `latex`, it also reported at here: https://tex.stackexchange.com/questions/754302/tikz-arrow-difference-in-difference-pdf-viewer

That is rather strange that:

when I open it with `PDF XChange`, the arrow tip didn't touched:

While in others (For example, Edge/Adobe Acrobat Reader), it shows that:

The latter is the expected one, any solution?

Hello, ExplorerQwQ

I see the same here, and it appears to be a difference in how we handle the "border width" property, as an example:

I will pass this up to the dev team to discern if we need to make a change here for uniformity, or if this is simply a design decision. I will try to keep you posted on the outcome.

Kind regards,

Thanks for your time, I would appreciate it for any progress!

BTW, I was curious that what is the function of "Page Content Properties" Panel, is that PDF-XChange provided?

For reference: I have PDF XChange editor v9.5 and am not seeing this problem, so it seems to be new.

@Daniel Regarding your suspicion: I don't think it's about "border width" but rather about the "line join" property. According to your screenshot, it should be "Miter" but it seems to be rendered as "Round". (With the border width and the correct miter, the arrow tips will be much closer together than without the border width, which is what should happen according to OP's screenshot (and to my v9.5 output).)

Hi - that pane is simply for viewing/editing the properties of selected page content.

Hi schtandard,

Can you please clarify how you adjusted the page content properties in order to render the arrows correctly? A screenshot would be really useful if you could add one too please.

I did not adjust the page content properties at all, I just opened the document in PDF XChange Editor 9.5. Here's a screenshot of the properties.
image.png
If I do adjust the Line Join property to Round (instead of the original Miter), I get almost the output that seems to be rendered by v10.5.2.
image(1).png
The only difference is the bottom right corner, which is the only one rendered correctly in the new version. I suspect that if you change the Line Join to Round on your end, this corner will become round.

Hope this clarifies things.

Re: Strange arrow tip style with PDF-XChange Editor but not in Edge or other PDF viewers  SOLVED

Post by Daniel - PDF-XChange »

Hello, everyone!

I have good news - this issue is confirmed as resolved for the next release. I did not have time to pry an explanation of why it happened, but as long as we know we have a fix coming (it should be in our 10.8 release), I think that is the most important part!
