Hi,
Since Active Directory (AD) only will install .msi installations, it would be very helpfull to adjust the installer to .msi files...
If not, any other suggestions to make an auto install other then make it run in the loginscript?
Thanks,
Richard

Hi,
We have been working on an MSI install for some time and do have some samples - however, we have had numerous problems with various installer packages tried (including some of the largest in the Industry such as Install Shield) with reliabilitity.
For example - Install Shield will allow you to install once - but run the installer again and it refuses to allow a 2nd install (e.g. an update) if you have already installed once - without a full uninstall.
Also we have had problems when attempting to create foreign language installers - some text at vital points in the install cannot be modified into alternate languages - again a major disadvantage.
So for now - we are still exploring options rather than ready to offer a solution.

Any update on .msi installer ?
Hi,
Being able to roll out using .msi and the Microsoft/AD Installer is a biggie for us. Has there been any progress with PDF-Xchange and/or the Viewer ?
Thanks.
Cheers,
David

Re: MSI Installer?
Just to offer an option for AD/GPO-type installation we used WinInstall LE (lucky who has an W2k Adv.Server CD) to create *.msi-packages by ourselves. But running into the problem an unprivileged user cannot safely use the Mozilla browser plugin or opening the application by a doubleclick at a pdf-file in windows explorer.
So deployment with self-created *.msi-packages (via before/after-snapshot comparing by WinInstall LE) works fine but after the login the unprivileged user runs in an install-orgy with several prompts to restart the computer. It needs 3 denials of restart to open the document with browser plugin/doubleclick from explorer properly - not the way we want to spent our time at service hotline....
Once finished this issue the left over of the session runs with no problems but comes back after a re-login.
For troubleshooting we tried to manually copy the npPDFXCviewNPPlugin.dll to plugin-directory of our Firefox-deployment directory (afraid of doing this for further FF version too) first and disabled the "opening in browser option" afterwards but it doesn't helps.
The good news: Opening the application from start menu and loading pdf-documents works fine.
Environment:
W2k3-AD controller
XP SP3 clients
product version 2.04105
FF 3.0.10
So is there a way to ensure the "browser-plugin and doubleclick"-option safely for unprivileged users?
Regards

Re: MSI Installer?
We now offer an MSI installer for both the PDF-XChange PRO (V4.x) and PDF-XChange Viewer (V2.x) products - please see:
https://www.pdf-xchange.com/downloads/users/
Please note =-there are seperate downloads for 32/64 bit Windows - unlike the .exe binary installers, the mSI installers do not lend themselves to being combined.
