Purpose of mouse cursor change when Shift key is pressed during comment drawing

Post by rakunavi »

Hello all,

I have long been wondering about the type of mouse cursor when drawing comments while holding down the Shift key.

Before going into the main topic, let's check the basics. For example, when drawing a polyline comment without pressing the Shift key, the cursor on the left side of the figure below (hereinafter referred to as cursor A) appears from the start point to the end point. When editing a control point after creating a comment, the cursor on the right side of the figure below (hereafter referred to as cursor B) is displayed.

Now, here is the main issue. Not only polylines, but also when you draw a comment while holding down the Shift key to limit the angle, the cursor changes to Cursor B. However, even if I release the Shift key afterwards, it does not return to the original cursor A. What on earth does cursor B mean in this case?

In the following verification video, a polyline is used to draw the letter "W" twice. The first W is drawn without ever pressing Shift, and then the control point is adjusted. Make sure that cursor A and cursor B are switched as intended. Then, when drawing the second W, press Shift temporarily but release it immediately. Make sure that cursor B remains unchanged after releasing the Shift key.

Hello Daniel, thank you for contacting the dev team.
I am relieved that it is not my lack of understanding.

As for the cursor when drawing a new comment, I prefer cursor A, which allows me to more accurately grasp the exact location where I am about to draw, regardless of whether or not I use the Shift key to limit the angle. With cursor B, the lower right area is hidden by the cursor icon, so I cannot grasp the location of the cursor when I am extending the line to the upper left and trying to bend it at a slight distance as shown here.

Please give my best regards to the developers.

Best regards,
rakunavi

Hello, rakunavi

Indeed, the "crosshair" is what should be shown in nearly all situations here, I have just heard confirmation that this is fixed, and will be present in the next release, so keep an eye out!

Hello Daniel, thank you for your reply. That's good to hear.

I reported the issue as limited to the Shift key, but in fact the issue also occurs when the Ctrl key is pressed. You probably noticed this, but just in case.

Best regards,
rakunavi
