Add to document a count of the number of files merged?
Is there anyway to do this?
I can find no macro for it, strangely.

Re: Add to document a count of the number of files merged?
Hello, chrisjj
indeed it does not seem to exist, we do have a number of source pages option, but not one for number of source files. I have raised this with the Dev team, hopefully we can see this added in the future.
Kind regards,

I know the macro does not exist, thanks.
But is there any other way. E.g. some configurable counter? ToC knows the value, for example.

Hello, chrisjj
Unfortunately not one that I am aware of. Could you elaborate on what you mean by "the ToC knows the value"?
Kind regards,

Thanks.
I was referencing the fact the command Build Table of Contents clearly knows the number of files merged.

Hello chrisjj,
When you are merging the files - you can also know the number, and you can then e.g. add a watermark with that number if desired.
As Daniel said above - there is no automated way to do this even though yes the tool doing the merge would know the total number of files merged.
Kind regards,
Stefan

To be clear, I am not merging the files. The tool is.

How can I know the number when the tool is merging files?

Re: Add to document a count of the number of files merged?
Hello chrisjj,
When you are initiating the merging process - you are adding the files to the tool, right?
At that step of the process you would have a selection of files you want to merge - and would know their number.
In any case - as already mentioned above - we do not have such a feature at this time.
If you are also including bookmarks for each filename - you can then also count that number of bookmarks created.
Kind regards,
Stefan

I cannot imagine what gave you that idea.
No. When I initiate, I just Run the tool. No further action by me.
The tool itself adds whatever files in finds in a Optons named folder.

How can I do that before "add a watermark with that number if desired"?

Hello, chrisjj
Before we begin, I should mention that it has already been said, this is something I passed along to the Dev team for consideration. I cannot promise a change, but in a future release it may be available. I am afraid when/if it is implemented, you will not gain access to this feature without updating the software.
Now, going back a little bit:

Now, going back a little bit:
This is something which I still do not understand your comment of. No-where in the Create ToC command, action, or output, is there a clear indicator on the number of input files. I am confused as to why you believe this is something which that action knows, and I would like an explanation on how you came to the conclusion that information is available to it?
Finally:
As Stefan and I both mentioned, there is no automated way of doing so at this time. This was an "easier after the fact" manual method suggestion. He means that when the file is merged, you can open it up, and count the number of root bookmarks, assuming you configured your tool to create one root bookmark per file.

Re: Add to document a count of the number of files merged?
Stefan, if you can tell me the process for your count that number of bookmarks created before adding a watermark with that number if desired, please do. Thanks.
To avoid further misunderstanding perhaps more support staff ping-pong could be avoided. Thanks.

Hello, chrisjj
Stefan is done for the day, but there is no miscommunication on our end, I spoke with Stefan directly about this, and offered you his reply alongside my post. His suggestion was purely a manual approach.
There is at this time, no way to accomplish this automatically.

Sure. No-one suggested otherwise.
But still I would appreciate hearing his actual process. Because I cannot fathom it.

Re: Add to document a count of the number of files merged?
Hello, chrisjj
The process would be as simple as:
1. Convert the document as normal.
2. Open in PDF-Xchange Editor.
3. Open Bookmarks pane (Ctrl_B).
4. collapse all bookmark groups, then count the number "top level" bookmarks, as there will be one per input document.
