Guided/restricted horizontal and vertical touch scrolling, based upon initial input detection

Post by JimmyD »

I would like to request guided/restricted horizontal or vertical touch scrolling for PDF-XChange Editor.

Most touch optimized apps have a subtle feature when zoomed in, that restricts the scrolling to strictly horizontal or vertical, once they detect the initial bit of input as horizontal or vertical.

This makes it much more easier to scroll perfectly vertically or horizontally with your thumb.

Thanks in advance.

Hello JimmyD,

I will pass your suggestion to my colleagues working on Touch Screen devices support, and see what we can do in that respect!

Kind regards,
Stefan

Hi,

This area certainly need some improvements. I'm also facing same issue as @JimmyD

Steps to reproduce
1. Open this PDF
File_Scroll issue.pdf
(2.84 MiB) Downloaded 71 times
2. Use Windows Snap Layout
3. Enable Fit visible view
4. Scroll to page 5 then scroll up to page 1 with finger touch

Issue
Horizontal motion is detected

Expected behavior
No horizontal motion detection

Additional info
- No issue with Microsoft Edge, Drawboard PDF, Adobe Acrobat
- No issue when scrolling with touchpad

GIF - Scroll action performed with finger touch
- Left : Horizontal motion detected in PDFXCE. See the bottom horizontal scrollbar moving
- Right : Steady bottom horizontal scrollbar in Microsoft Edge

Hello, Loki@99

Indeed, it does appear this item still has not been addressed. I have brought the topic back up with the dev team for another review.

Hi,

The unintentional horizontal motion is also reproducible in Bookmarks panel.

Hello, Loki@99

Noted, I expect the same appears in all panes where a horizontal scrollbar is possible.

Thanks for bringing this up, I never noticed it there since I always have "Wrap Long Bookmarks" enabled.

Many thanks. It would be great to finally have this feature.
It makes a huge difference in usability while scrolling with your thumb in PDFX in a narrow window during split-screen, with another app like OneNote snapped to the side.

I have just renewed my PDF X-change license after I found out PDF X-Change has a native Windows ARM build and decent touchscreen support.

For the latter, could there be a progress on fixing this scrolling issue? it wobbles when you touch scroll, due to lack of X direction panning lock.

Hello WhizzWr,

Welcome to our forums.
I will ask our UI Devs to review this topic and give us any updates they might have on that. I do not have a touch device here in this office to test myself, so I do not know whether there have already been any improvements.

We will post again as soon as there are any news on the subject!

Kind regards,
Stefan

Thanks, Stefan, for your reply. :D

I hope there is some progress. I'm currently using version 10.5.2.395 and can confirm that the issue persists.

Yes this is the current latest version, and I've already asked for the update. As soon as I have any further info we will post it here!
