FR: Duplicate Guidelines

Post by PHK »

As PDF-XCE is now, I see two ways of adding guidelines to an open page: the Add New Guidelines tool and dragging from the margin rulers. I would like to have a third way: Control-Click on an existing guideline and drag. This would be similar to the way we can duplicate pages in the Thumbnails panel by Control-Clicking on a thumbnail and dragging it elsewhere in the panel.

Thanking you in advance for your thoughtful consideration of this proposal.
All best,

Hello, PHK

Thank you for the suggestion, I am afraid that at this time, the request has been rejected. As you already have the option of dragging from the ruler at all times, there is no need for such specific handling to be added.

Oh well, so much for consistency. Funny how some things are cloneable with [cltr]-click-drag and others are not.

I guess this is the same question as a number of days ago ?
viewtopic.php?t=43587

That request was recorded with a Feature Request ticket.
@PDF-XChange Support : is that ticket still valid ?

It goes about duplicating guide lines and not about duplicating objects that are part of the PDF.
So, I wonder if this kind of request will be accepted.

Certainly Willy, the two topics are related as the both concern Guidelines which I am using increasingly. I suppose there are different technological issues for each of those requests and I hope that this most recent request has not jeopardized the earlier one.

In the meantime, I am adding more guidelines to a sheet than I can possibly use and shift them around to suit my requirements and ignore the unusable ones. I am organizing related multi-page documents onto large single virtual sheets that can be easily 20,000 to 30,000 square inches of hundreds of pages. That is when guidelines become essential for element placement. It looks messy when the guidelines are visible but they are easily toggled off and on. But I would still rather have easier ways to add single guidelines as needed rather than over-populating the sheet with guidelines.

Hello, PHK

The main difference here is that I am in the same timezone/office as the majority of our Development leads, so I do not usually create a ticket until after hearing back from them. This helps to save some time in assignment of which dev a job goes to.
Dimitar is in our UK office, and much of the Dev team is not available to make executive decisions there, so oftentimes such tickets will be made for later review instead.

As such, until the ticket he made is reviewed by a member of the dev team it is "Schrodinger's Feature request". Based on the extreme similarity of the request, I do expect it will see the same result as this one did. But, stranger things have happened and sometimes all it takes is a question phrased a different way, so, time will tell.
