OneDrive files get wrong file names
Hi there,
I have tried to solve the following problem on Microsoft's side, but was not successful so far. So I'm trying to see if you can provide a workaround.
I have a Sharepoint library that is synced with a local folder on my hard disk (let's say c:\company files). I open files from there. A few weeks ago, Microsoft Word has started presenting a different save as dialog, which shows "https://mycompany.sharepoint.com/shared documents/". even though I've opened the source file from my local disk. I'd love to get rid off it, but was unable to do so. However, at least it works.
But what is really annoying: When converting the file to a PDF using your plug-in, the PDF no longer saves in the original folder, but in my PC's standard folder and gives it a name with the full Sharepoint URL.
So instead of
c:\company files\filename.pdf
I get
c:\users\user\documents\https___companyname.sharepoint.com_shared documents_filename.pdf
Is there any way you can change the plug-in to strip the additional file name and save the PDF in the original local folder?

Re: OneDrive files get wrong files names
Hi, nichu42
thanks for the report. This is something I will need to consult the devs team about.
In the meanwhile, did you know that we also support opening the fires directly from SharePoint rather than using the intermediary of a sync'd folder?
The advantage over working with files on a sync'd folder is more than just avoiding issues with improperly sync'd files, it also opens up for you access tot he SharePoint file control tools like Check Out/In, adding metadate etc.
The Editor can add a SharePoint Place and offer file browsing of the Site files directly: https://www.pdf-xchange.com/knowledgeba ... nge-Editor
And the Pro bundle goes one further and allows a Right Click Open in PDF-XChange from a web browser: https://help.pdf-xchange.com/sysadmin/s ... ation.html
I hope that helps. I will ask the SharePoint dev if they are familiar with this issue, maybe we need to set up a sync'd folder test.

Re: OneDrive files get wrong file names
Thank you for your swift response, Paul.
It would be fantastic if you found a way to solve this. I'm creating PDFs from different file types all day, while being online and offline. It would save me lots of time to be able to work like I did a few weeks ago. A synced folder really is all I need. It's the quickest way for me.

Hi, nichu42
I have asked the specialist who made the feature to take a look and will let you know what comes.

Hi, nichu42,
can you tell us if the issue persists when printing directly to the PDF-Xchange Printer, without using the Office Add-In?

Re: OneDrive files get wrong file names
Exact same problem here!
Any news on this??
PS: Using pdf printer plugin also stores the pdf in the same documents folder (by default) as if using the plugin is used with the "save in same folder as source file"

Hello sbp,
Can you please confirm which build of our products is currently installed on your end?
And as Paul asked nichu42 above - can you please also try this:
can you tell us if the issue persists when printing directly to the PDSF-Xchange Printer, without using the Office Add-In?
Kind regards,
Stefan

Hi,
I am on:
And yes, as I said before the pdf printer also wants to use the "documents" file path as default to save the printed pdf.

Re: OneDrive files get wrong file names
Hello, sbp
Thank you for the confirmation, To begin, you are about 5 builds behind the current release, so my first advice would be to update the Editor, restart your PC, and then try again, and let us know if the situation improves.
I believe that since the first report, we have made some changes to our "title rules" handling which should strip out such URL relations, but I unfortunately do not have a synced folder to test it myself at the moment.
Kind regards,

Re: OneDrive files get wrong file names
Hi,
I am now on:
Still the same thing happens:
A word file in this folder
C:\Users\Username\companyname\MSTeams-channel\subfolder\word-file.docx
will be exported to:
C:\Users\Username\OneDrive - companyname\Dokumente\https___companyname.sharepoint.com_sites_MSTeams-channel_Freigegebene Dokumente_channel_subfolder_wordfile.pdfword-file.pdf
Another test with this file location:
"C:\Users\username\OneDrive - companyname\username\folder\200104_GigaG1.docx"
The sharepoint link to this document would be:
https://companyname-my.sharepoint.com/:w:/r/personal/useremail/_layouts/15/Doc.aspx?....
will be exported to
C:\Users\Username\OneDrive - companyname\Dokumente\https___companyname-my.sharepoint.com_personal_usereamail_Documents_username_MSTeamsname_200104_GigaG1.pdf
So you see, these files always end up in my documents folder.
From the file name, you can see that the filepath is somehow known, because this is included in there.
I know that our documents path got redirected to our onedrive (in order for automatic sync), but I guess that this should not matter.
Let me know if you need something else to further debug it.

Re: OneDrive files get wrong file names
Hi, sbp
thanks for this. I have been unable to reproduce this. Try as I might I always get prompted to save in the source "OneDrive" folder.
I have asked the dev who does this add-in to give us his suggestions. One of us will post here with his thoughts on the matter.

Re: OneDrive files get wrong file names
Hi again spb,
the devs have located the cause of this and fixed it. Microsoft changed the way they pass the path to us.
The fix will be in the next release which does not yet have a date set.
