Scroll in hand mode does not advance pages

Post by rfog »

I'm sure there is an option to make the program work as I want but I cannot find it. In page mode and hand enabled in a touch device without keyboard, is there any way to advance to next page with the "hand"? I know that it can be done with scroll enabled, but that ends being uncomfortable having to stay continuously scrolling to move around the page, including screen flashes. In other systems, using the equivalent hand mode, if you "force" down (or up), next page is shown. Is there any equivalent? I don`t mean the same exact way, but an easy touch way to do it, double tap, whatever. I know that pressing the next page button in toolbar does the job, but it is not the best way to do it.

Thanks.

Hello rfog,

So you are looking for an action that e.g. you could kind of "swipe" to get to the next/previous page.
I am afraid that it does not seem the hand tool can do this on it's own, however we have some other Touch device users that I hope would be able to help.

In the mean time - have you considered switching to the ribbon page layout?

With that you would have your pages arranged horizontally - so you would then be able to have e.g. a continuous page view and then 'swipe' left and right while having the hand active and click and dragging with it (effectively similar to swiping)?
Kind regards,
Stefan

Hi,

@Tracker Support

As a touchscreen user, I find it logic that a horizontal swipe gesture should act as a next/previous page feature in single page or two pages view and not only in Ribbon Page layout. It's the behavior of an Android / Ipad tablet.

This topic is btw somehow related to the one I made concerning gestures in fullscreen mode.

Hello, Loki@99

Gestures are notoriously difficult to get the correct tuning on, in much the same way "hold delays" are hard to please everyone with. I expect the reason we do not yet offer swipe gestures for next/previous is to avoid the complication of this, when the process of fine tuning that experience to avoid unwanted actions, will take so much valuable time.

This may be something we offer in the future, but I cannot promise a swift implementation of it at this time.

Yes, that mode improves the scroll as it is shorter to change page.

For now, apart of that mode, what I've done is I've added the next/prev page to the vertical toolbar.

What Xodo does is if it detects a touch, it draws two tiny next/back buttons that allows move next/prev page. IMHO, they are too much tiny, and could be as large as 2/3 of the height of the progam, but at least it is a help to adavancing pages.

[Related to gestures, as Windows developer myself, I remember Microsoft added gesture support in Windows 8.x for Store applications, and some time later, they made available to native Win32 as well (in fact, there is the other way around, because .NET runs over Win32, they ended documenting the Win32 ones). That API can discriminate between mouse, finger and stylus (well, they have different events/Windows Messages for each). And we only need simple ones, swipe left/right/up/down. Perhaps this could help your developers to implement a thing like this in case you decide to follow this path].

BTW, I'm absurdly happy with this program.

Hello rfog,

Glad to hear you are happy with our products so far, and hapy to sea you have for now found a solution that works for you!
I will make sure that our UI devs read through this topic and take your comments into consideration, but as Dan above - I can't yet make any promises for gesture support at this time!

Kind regards,
Stefan
