ADVANCED Search

Post by masster »

Hi
PDF-Xchange Editor gets better and better by the day, becoming the standard editor for PDF files.
I have a feature to suggest. It is about advanced searching in folders and subfolders.
Many times it is very useful to search for other PDF elements, not just plain text.
Here is a non-exhaustive list of such elements:
  • JavaScripts
  • Forms
  • Stamps
  • Xforms
  • Watermarks
  • Web links
Is it doable?
Regards

Hello, masster

We do already offer quite extensive search functions, note that these are not all enabled by default:

To address each item by bullet point:

Javascripts - As far as I know, the text content of the script itself cannot be searched for.

Forms - The "content" of fields are included are included in any search with "include Form fields" enabled.

Stamps - The text "content" of a stamp is not searchable, however the name of a stamp is. If you have "include comments" enabled, these will be shown.

Xforms - Are simple containes that hold other content types. Searching for their contents would be what you are looking for. Usually these are base content text, images or Comments. Obviously images cannot be searched, but base text and comments should bot be included with the respective include options enabled.

Watermarks - Are simply base content, If they are text based, than they will be shown as text results in any "include Page text" search.

Web links - once again, as long as "Include external links" are enabled, than the "link object" on the page will be a search result. Notable in this case, is that the "text" you see on the page, and the link object are two entirely separate entities. This means if you make this search with both include options enabled and the two have identical text, you will get two separate results for the same area on the page:
