Hot Key for Hand Tool (Pan) Linked to Middle Mouse Button

The title pretty much says it all, This would be the perfect program for me if I could press the middle mouse button (on my mouse it is the scroll wheel) and be able to pan.

I often am switching back and forth between this and Bluebeam (used only for editing) and the interfaces are different which is taxing when switching back and forth 100s of times in a day.

It is very likely to be implemented yes, I cannot offer a timeline or guarantee of a swift process on it, but the Dev team has agreed to see what we can do. Note that items like this can sometimes be given a low priority either due to complexity and low user request volume, or conflict with existing functions that complicates the process (such as the current middle click pan tool).
I did my best to present potential solutions to any conflicts that I foresee, so that this can hopefully get around some of those hurdles a bit faster. I am honestly looking forward to this very much myself, as I constantly find myself trying to navigate this way out of habit from other apps I use at home, and the current "scroll toggle" just so happens to pan me in the exact opposite direction form my intent whenever I do so!

Hello, I would also like to express how important I believe this feature is as every major competitor takes advantage of it and it's a critical function for professionals in architecture and interior design. Bluebeam is currently leading the industry, and DWG True View also uses this feature. Not to mention AutoCAD.

When you refer to the "current middle click pan tool," are you referring to the directional scroll / "follow me" function?

If you ask me, it's incredibly safe to replace that function even by default. We all use smartphones, after all.

Hahaha! I don't normally think too far outside of the work zone with my replies, but somehow this comment reminded me of a certain "don't you guys have smartphones?" statement that was made at an infamous convention a few years ago.

You took the words out of my mouth, I have asked the team for another priority increase on this item. Hopefully we can see it happen soon, but as always, I cannot make any promises.

For the record, at the moment, middle click does do the "directional follow me" action. We are hoping to get that changed to a more "touchscreen - fingerpress" navigation style for middle click and hold.

Just for the record, we are not necessarily asking for NEW functionality. We want to change the middle button when you hold it down to your already existing "hand" tool, instead of the follow-me functionality. Of course it can be an option so the user can change it to either/or, but hopefully this helps clarify the request.

I am not sure if you have updated to the latest build yet, but we have just implemented this in build 393. Please give it a try!
A middle-click-and-hold/drag will effectively work like the hand tool (if exclusive mode was permanently enabled, to prevent object selection), while a quick middle click and release will retain the old functionality for those who still want it.
