Hi All,
I searched the forum but I couldn't find any solution. I am using PDF X-Change Editor as the default PDF software. However, when I embed any pdf file into Word, Excel or PowerPoint, the pdf icon does not appear. If I make Acrobat Reader as the default software, then the problem is fixed.
I am clicking "Change Icon" button, finding the Adobe Acrobat exe file to show the pdf icon each time. This is really annoying problem.
Could you please help me solve this issue?

Re: Embedded pdf file icon
Hi, Fatih
I am afraid Microsoft have "hard coded" this. They will not allow you to change it from Adobe.
Sorry to be the bearer of bad news, but it is beyond our control.

Re: Embedded pdf file icon
Hi all,
For me it seems to work (in Word 2016), simply like this:
- open a new or an existing document in Word
- in the Insert-ribbon, click the Object-icon > Object
- in the Object-dialog-box, click the "Create from file"-tab
- click the "Browse"-button, navigate to the PDF that you like to insert, and click the "Insert"-button
- activate the "Display as icon" check-box
- a default icon (like in the print screen here above) appears
- click the "Change icon..."-button
- in the "Change icon"-dialog-box, click the "Browse"-button
- navigate to "C:\Program Files\Tracker Software\PDF Editor" (= the default installation folder for PDF-XChange Editor)
- search for PDFXEdit.exe and click once on it (to select it), followed by clicking the "Open"-button
- normally, the default PDF-XChange Editor icon will be selected, so click "OK"
- finally, click OK once again, and that should be it
- the PDF-document is embedded and presented by the desired icon
- you can save and close the Word-document and when re-opening it, the correct icon should still be present
- double-clicking the icon starts the default PDF-application and opens the embedded PDF-file
@Fatih - I hope you will come back to read this...
Does that work for you ?

Hello, Willy Van Nuffel
Thank you very much, I do hope that this solution works in various other versions of word, and is not limited to 2016 or earlier versions...
Kind regards,
