I have been using some online batch PDF OCR programs, and I've discovered that the search function in PDF-XChange finds the desired text, but it does not highlight it - so I can't see where it is. (I know if finds it, because it goes to the page containing that text.) For most files (including those OCRed by PDF-XChange), it does highlight the text found by the search. Other PDF viewers (Adobe, built-in viewers in web browsers) do highlight the found text in these same files where PDF-XChange fails. Is this some particular PDF format that all the other programs work OK with, but where PDF-XChange has a problem?
One example is OCR done by the online tool PDF24 Tools - OCR. I opened one of the files it created, and in case it's of any use, PDF-XChange reports it is PDF Version 1.6. However, I found another PDF file I have that is also PDF Version 1.6 where the highlighting works properly.
PDF-XChange tells me it is Version 2.5, Build 322.10, and the program tells me there are no updates available. (That surprises me, because it also says the build is from December, 2018 - is this program maintained any more?)
Search does not highlight found text in some OCRed PDF files

Re: Search does not highlight found text in some OCRed PDF files
Hello, todda
The Viewer has been discontinued for over a decade now, the version you are running was a final minor security patch, and a license compatibility update to ensure that users who buy a modern license wanting to use the viewer, still could do so. We are not planning any other changes to the viewer in the future.
It has been succeeded by the PDF-Xchange Editor, which offers much more robust OCR functionality, especially since V9 when we implemented the ABBYY FineReader "Enhanced OCR" engine, now available to all licenses of our Editor Plus, and PDF-XChange PRO.
As for the highlight" functionality you speak of, I cannot say I have seen anything like you describe personally when testing other apps... I do have the latest version of Adobe's software on my personal machine, for comparison testing, and cannot seem to locate any such "highlight" function there. Could I ask for a video showing this feature in action?
In our software, the EOCR runs on the defined pages at the time you click the "OCR pages > OK" buttons, and if configured properly, would convert any non-text based "text" into the respective "text-based" content, allowing you to select and edit it with the "Edit Text" tool. I do not see why there would be a need for any special highlights in a case where, any text you see on the page should now be editable text.
Kind regards,
