Hello kmcaron,

Welcome to our forums.
Can you please tell us the exact steps/process you use to create the initial PDF file?
And if the file is not confidential - can you please share with us a copy of the original .docx, the PDF file you create as well as the PDF file you get after you try to identify the form fields?

Kind regards,
Stefan

To create the .docm file I just created tables and line/questions. (When I added the radio buttons to the word document, it made me save the file as a .docm

Attached are the doc and pdf.

The attachments won't let me attach a .doc file

I do have a version of the file where I inserted check boxes in the word doc, but really want the behavior of the radio buttons. I thought I'd be able to change the field type, bu haven't found a way to do that.

Hello, kmcaron

Thank you for the sample, To begin, the quality of the "radio buttons" in this form would be too low for such a feature to work even if we did offer it. You may need to save future image based documents at a higher resolution if you wish for these functions to be reliable in the future.

Unfortunately extending beyond that, Radio button detection specifically, is not available in our software at this time (or any others I have on hand, including Adobe), but there is a good reason for this. The interconnectivity of radio buttons is not something that translates well into a computer's understanding of the page structure while it scans the file. It is far from as intuitive as we humans think it is, and programmatically conveying just the obvious configurations in which they should be associated to each other may well be impossible, ignoring the less well formed documents.

As such, while the Dev team has promised to look into if it is possible and we have made a ticket, I do need to mention that this is very much a case of "we will see what can be done" and not a promise that it is possible at this juncture.

ok Thanks Daniel. Yes, I was hoping to make circle check boxes and then change those into radio button and manually group the buttons together. I didn't find a way to change the check box type to a radio button type. This might be an easier enhancement. The conversion would make each check box -> radio button be in it's own group. or maybe let me group multiple check boxes together and then in the property pane allow multiple or one-and-only-one checkbox to be selected in the group.

I am impressed with the latest update and the "Consider table cells with contects as potential fields"

Hello kmcaron,

Check boxes and Radio butons are different types of form fields, and unfortunately they are indeed not interchangeable, so there is no quick and easy way to convert one into the other. So for Radio buttons you will probably still need to manually add those for the time being and remove any check boxes which might have been incorrectly added by an automated tool before that.

Kind regards,
Stefan
