Any Update for MSI Installer?

Post by magix2000 »

We have more than 100 licenses of PDF-XChange in our company and we have to deploy software with wsus (msi package) from microsoft. Do you have any plans to release it also as msi package?

kind regards

Hi Holger,

over the past 2 years we have tested just about every main stream installer package available in an effort to make an MSI installer that would successfully install all the required components reliably - and also do the same when upgrading to a later release - to put is mildly this has proved difficult - none performed well for all versions of Windows we support in all situations - everyone failed at some point.

Further we are not the only provider of Virtual printers having this issue - we know of none with an equivalently broad range of products that has achieved this and offers such an installer !

However - finally there is some light at the end of the tunnel we hope !

We are now testing another tool that allows us to modify its behaviour sufficiently to adapt it to our needs it would appear and if our final tests prove successful - we hope to offer an MSI package for our products in the very near future - I will post here just as soon as we are able to sign this off and deliver.

Hi HTH,

Is there any progress with the MSI-installer? As for a few other members of this board we also do our software deployment using Group Policy's installation. (GPO) at system startup. It is part of the computer configuration so it does run as the "system" user, with full administrative privileges by default.

One of the problems you describe "converting" the installer to an MSI is that updating the package does cause problems. Correct me if i'm wrong but when using Software Installation the Microsoft-method of updating software is "remove installed sofware, re-install software". So in our case that would not be a problem.

Hi,

No I am afraid theere is no progress and in truth the indications coming from MS are that the MSI installer is possibly to be replaced or radically altered in view of its many and serious shortcomings.

This is the best PDF viewer around. You can both view your PDF files on your PC or inside your browser. If you prefer viewing PDF files in your browser there is no other good option around.
