Date format in Add Custom Stamp

Post by Victor Warner »

The Add Custom Stamp option for Date contains a very long list of date and time formats.

But I do not see one for, e.g., 15 April 2025, in which the month is spelt out in full (with day first and year last).

The closest dd-mmm-yyyy is 15 Apr 2025 or mmmm d, yyyy, which gives April 15, 2025 (i.e., the USA format).

If the full format with day, month spelled out, and year is not available, could it be added?

Hello Victor Warner,

You should be able to type your own custom formats and the "mmmm" (four m's) will give you the full month name.

So you would need a formatting like "dd mmmm yyyy" to get '15 April 2025' for today's date.

Kind regards,
Stefan

Thank you for the respnse and for how to add the date in the UK format.

However, the list presented when clicking on the Date button does not appear to allow for editing, and the properties section does not also appear to allow for a different format. See screenshot.

Hi,

The "Dynamic Dates"-stamps are stored in the DynamicDate.pdf file, located in "C:\Program Files\Tracker Software\PDF Editor\Stamps\ENU".

In case you like to modify this pdf, you first have to make a copy of it, while PDF-XChange Editor is closed.
Put the copy on your desktop-folder or elsewhere.

Now, start PDF-XChange Editor, and open the DynamicDate.pdf from the copy-location.
You will see two tiny pages with only a date. In case of "Custom Date", you will need to modify the first page.

In the Form-tab, click "Select Fields".
Click on the date in the first page.
Now, right-click, and click "Properties".
In the "Text Field Properties"-pane, at the right, scroll down to the bottom.
Click the 'three points"-icon, at the right of "Run a JavaScript".
Now, you will see the javascript-code behind the "Custom Date"-stamp.
Scroll a little bit down, and you will see the list with possible choices.
You can now change an existing option, or add a line with your new choice.
Click OK when done.

If you like, you can repeat the above steps and modify the "Current Date"-stamp on the second page.

Once that the modification is done, save and close the DynamicDate.pdf file and also close PDF-XChange Editor.

Copy the DynamicDate.pdf file from the copy-location to its original location "C:\Program Files\Tracker Software\PDF Editor\Stamps\ENU", overwriting the original pdf.

Start PDF-XChange Editor and see if it works.

Does that help ?

Kind regards.

Thank you for the detailed instructions. I have followed them but the new custom date is not appearing.

I have recorded a screen video to show the steps I followed. I do not believe it is possible to attach videos to this forum, so here is a link to it: https://www.icloud.com/iclouddrive/09aghs7gNsKlmPnLXdkgA6Utg#dynamic_date

Any further help would be greatly appreciated.

Version 10.5.2 (build 395).

Thanks for your video.

I see that you are creating a new custom stamp, and there the list with choices is not modified.
I do not know where these choices come from.

No, myself, I directly click one of the two Dynamic Dates in the Stamps Palette itself.
I see that there in your video, the first one, presents your modification. The second stamp, I can not see/verify.

In the list, in the javascript, I suppose you can set the default choice by using the "1" value, the 'old' default can be set to "-1".

Can you try that way ?

Kind regards.

Thank you for the response. Now I see what the modification to JavaScript affects. It is not the list of dates for the Create Custom Stamp; that list is somewhere else.

Can Tracker Software provide some help with that?

Sorry, I was wrong with the interpretation of your question.

What you like, is to create your own Custom Stamp.
I am afraid that the list with available date formats is hard coded.

Let's hear from PDF-XChange Support.

Kind regards.

Hello,

If you are simply looking to change the date format of a basic "autofill today's date" field, that is created with the add custom stamp tool, than you only need to right click on the date tool, to choose one of the numerous date layouts.
(In the next build, which this screenshot is from, we will be adding a dropdown arrow, as well as a "manage" function which will allow for custom formats beyond what is available by default):

If the list currently offered to you via right click does not contain the format you are looking for, keep an eye our for version 10.6, as it will include some improvements to this area.

Okay. The point as mentioned in my first post, is that the very extensive list that is currently offered misses one: dd mmmm yyyy. I look forward to 10.6.
