Printing

Post by horseguards »

Dear Friends,

Two printing problems, not specific to Xchange but to working with pdf files generally which could be addressed by Tracker Software and incorporated into Xchange.

First: printing text from pdf files does not reproduce black text very well – can be somewhat faint or grey.

Second: printing multiple, consecutive pages per sheet. Assume you want to print two (or any number of) pages per sheet from a hundred-page file. Each page of two sheets has to be created manually, ie select multi-page set-up, enter page numbers, then print. However, if you want to print on both sides of the paper further complication ensues regarding the correct page number sequences. Also, all input fields revert to single page/standard/default mode after each sheet is printed.

For example, to print 20 pages with two pages per sheet, the sequence is print pages, 1-2, 5-6, 9-10, 13-14, 17-18. Remove sheets from printer, turn over and put back into printer. Then print pages 3-4, 7-8, 11-12, 15-16, 19-20. This is laborious and inefficient. Imagine what it’s like with a five-hundred page document (I’ve done it on a number of occasions) and where only text is required and illustration pages/plates are excluded and thus the sequence gets screwed.

Selecting print “Odd pages only” (or Even) doesn’t/can’t work.

Any ideas?

Grant.

Hi,

with regards :

1: First: printing text from pdf files does not reproduce black text very well – can be somewhat faint or grey.

I think we may be ahead of you here - hopefully in buuild 2.041 or 42 - a significant improvement will be forthcoming.

2: Have you checked out the nUP option in the latest builds when printing ?

does this not do as requried ?
If posting files to this forum - you must archive the files to a ZIP, RAR or 7z file or they will not be uploaded - thank you.

Best regards
