Reduce File Size

Post by jwsullivan »

In Adobe 8 Professional there is a function called "Reduce File Size" that permits a reduction in the size of a PDF. Adobe documentation states that it "resamples and recompresses images, removes embedded fonts, compresses document structure, and cleans up elements such as invalid bookmarks"[/b] This can result in a substantial reduction of the file size.

For example, performing the "Reduce File Size" in Adobe 8 on a sample image, the image size was reduced from 282,776 to 124,072 bytes. I have tried to duplicate this within Tracker XChange Viewer and not been able to obtain anything even close to that type of reduction. Is there a method I am not aware of that does this? Or is there a plan to do it in the future?

Thanks-

Hi,

At this time when making new PDF files - we offer excellent compression/optimisation and it is possible using the low level API to reduce existing file size for some content (such as fonts/bookmarks etc - but not images) in Version 5 (due later this summer) we will offer existing file re-optimization - including images and the intention is to do so in the SDK via a higher level API accessible to all.
If posting files to this forum - you must archive the files to a ZIP, RAR or 7z file or they will not be uploaded - thank you.

Best regards
