Resource.dat

Post by PaulT »

If I'm reading it correctly, I have to have resource.dat available if I've used the active-x SDK. If that's true, I would like to beg that you consider renaming it to Tracker.dat or something else non generic.

Resource.dat just begs to be overwritten but someone not paying attention down the road.

Yes, resource.dat is required for ActiveX SDK and must be present.
And no, we will not rename this file. Why would someone overwrite this file? There is no reason to install something else in the same folder with the ActiveX SDK, and if you do this - this is your problem, isn't it? Our SDK does not necessarily need to be placed is the same folder as your program, so it is not a problem to install the SDK in a subfolder or even in a completely different one.

Well gee, yes I guess I have control over what X number of developers are going to do down the road. This is being installed on a production scheduler machine which I have limited ability to decide where things go.

It is however my "problem" in deciding what product I use for my project - thanks.

Yes, resource.dat should be available, but in the folder where viewer's .exe file is located -- it is part of the viewer and must be present. You don't need to have this file into the folder of your application.

Ok, well I haven't created anything yet, so I'll see how this goes. I was just asking if you could rename the file in such a way as to make it possible to identify where it came from. pdfx_res.dat for example. I don't think I need to be told its my problem for something so simple. If you guys have issues with the question, then it's youir problem really.

The Viewer's AX is designed to be installed in a separate folder - it is not a one file SDK.

It uses some external resources (resource.dat is only one of them; AX can use external stamps, language files, search providers definitions, xmp panes templates, etc.). It is like system32 folder -- applications don't write (in most cases) files into this folder to prevent conflicts ?

Its no problem to ask any questions - anytime - though always a good idea to take a look through the manual/help files etc so save you and us time if possible, looks like maybe Victor (Lazycat) was just a bit stressed at the time - so please dont take offense - we all have bad days :-)

No problem - Once I get over the learning curve, all will be well.
