Pdf X-Change Viewer Pro as Grading tool for teachers

Post by andrea pacor »

Hi!

I am very happy user of Pdf XChange Viewer and I use it regularly to mark student papers. One feature that would make my life as a paper-grader much much easier is an evolution of the stamp tool.

As it stands, the stamp tool is a bit awkward to use in grading. I would have to make a picture with the text I need, then insert it in the palette. I much prefer using the text tool, but it slows me down significantly: click in, type, click out (repeat). The lost seconds pile up rather quickly, to the point that grading by hand is indeed faster (but not neater)

The perfect grading palette would allow me to simply type the text I want into an input field, the software would then turn it into a text stamp (or image stamp, it does not matter which), allowing me to select and paste much faster. Also, the palette would have to be always on top, or function as a toolbar so selection is easier. Also using function keys or number keys to select the ten most-used stamps would be helpful.

I think there is a market out there for a grading tool, but it has to make adding repetitive comments extremely quick to make it worthwhile.

Anyway, these are my 2c. Thank you for a great product.

Hello andrea pacor,

Welcome to our forums and thanks for the kind words.
Indeed we are considering significant changes to the stamps tool, including a stamps creation one that will allow you to build yours stamps much easier, and with a greater control over them.

For the moment if you want you can do the following - create an empty document and paste your typewritten text on the page. Flatten the comments, and then create a new stamps from this PDF document. This way your stamp would be vector based and scalable unlike an image stamp. Once you build up your stamps set - it should be rather quick to select and use them.

As for the stamp palette - if you go to Tools -> Comment and Markup Tools near the end you will see a "Show Stamps Palette" option. Select that and the palette will be always on top.

Regards,
Stefan
