Engineering Drawing with PDF
Need advice as to which version would be best for "mark up" of engineering drawings that are "printed to PDF" with layers.
Things that (if available) needed would be a library of symbols (Self built, saved as a "toolkit") that could be overlaid into the drawings.
Symbols that could be scaled and rotated.

Re: Engineering Drawing with PDF
Hello hjgravis,
I would recommend you the PDF XChange Editor:
https://www.pdf-xchange.com/product ... nge-editor
As it is faster and newer than the Viewer, and you can build your own vector stamps:
https://www.pdf-xchange.com/knowled ... Stamp-Tool
That would be easily scalable.
You can find some stamp collections here:
https://www.pdf-xchange.com/stamp_collections
And there should be many more online.
Regards,
Stefan

Re: Engineering Drawing with PDF
Thanks for the fast reply. I have downloaded the trial package. First thing I noticed was there seemed to be no way to "group" and "ungroup" drawn objects. Perhaps I missed this section in the manual when I looked. Please advise if this function is present.
Many Thanks
Harwell.

Hi Harwell,
Just to be clear, when you say 'group/ungroup' are referring to the ability to select (while grouped) i.e. one line and have all within a group automatically selected?
Cheers,

Re: Engineering Drawing with PDF
Hey there,
same problem here... working with PDF XChange 5 Pro.
Need to group several objects to move them at once onto another ground view. Isn´t it possible?
Or is there any posibility to change the background with keeping the same "insert centre"?
Another Question: Do i have the possibility to copy objects to the exact same spot inbetween different sheets? (like STRG + ALT + SHIFT + V in Indesign)?
Cheers for your Support.

Re: Engineering Drawing with PDF
Hello Flo,
I am afraid that user defined groups of e.g. annotation objects are not something I can find in the PDF specification. It is possible to have groups in the structure of the file, but those are not visible or shown in the actual PDF. The only "group" I could find was for Transparency purposes - and this was again at the document structure level, not objects on the page that you can select or manipulate as a permanent group.
For copying objects - if you paste them on the new page/document with Ctrl-V - they should be pasted at the same position relative to the coordinate system of the new page as they were on the old. Please note that when copying between pages with different dimensions - this might give results different than the expected.
Regards,
Stefan

Re: Engineering Drawing with PDF
Cheers for the fast reply Stefan,
but it doesn't seem so.... when in insert a copied object via ctrl + v it gets placed randomly (or where my mouse is) but not in place.
Is it setting specific issue?

Hi Flo,
Yes - under Edit -> Preferences -> Commenting there is a checkbox "Paste comments into mouse position", which is probably enabled for you.
