Watermark Time/Date Stamp

Post by Bob Hartung »

Hi,

Recently I had a request from our Engineering Dept. to figure out how we could take a customer drawing PDF file and superimpose the date we received the file on the drawing itself.

I tried using PDF Tools and that did what I needed it to do but when I showed the engineers how it would work, they said there was too many steps. Most of our drawings come in as e-mail file attachments so they want to be able to open the attachment and have a single step to date stamp the file and save it to its final destination. Using PDF Tools, they would have to save the file first, access it in PDF Tools, execute the watermarking process and save the file to its final destination and then delete the original file.

The alternative they preferred was to open the attachment PDF in Acrobat Reader and then print the file with PDF-XChange and use the watermark capability there. It actually is quicker this way. The only weak link is the watermark function. It does provide the macro functions like PDF Tools does. You have to remember to manually update the date in the watermark setting before printing.

I'd like to recommend that you add the macro capability to PDF-XChange for convenience.

Thanks.
