Handy PDF markups - my wish

Post by ihomer »

I've been spending years on searching/trying at least a DOZEN of PDF software, for handy PDF markups.

Acrobat 7/8 is most close to my needs, but still very clumsy when handling heavy workload of PDF markups.

The attached file is an example. Usually the file will be printed by our typesetter to amend the original Pagemaker file.

What I need can be depicted as:
1. When I select some text, and press "Delete" or "Back Space", the selected text will be covered by a strike-through line (best if it can be customized as red, blue or double strike-through, thick or thin). This is similar to the "Indicate Text Edit Tool" feature of Acrobat 7. Yet Acrobat doesn't provide such customization feature.

2. The deleted text should be attached with a "tail", as shown in the example. This is because if without such a "tail", a 1- or 2-character deletion tends to be ignored, when printed, by the typesetter.
(if this "tail" feature is difficult to realize, I hope the strike-through can be automatically highlighted or added with shading texture, otherwise it is very likely to be overlooked.)

3. When I type anything in the line, the typed character should be automatically put into a text box (or a call-out box), instead of merely a caret as invoking the "Indicate Text Edit Tool" feature of Acrobat 7. The caret-corresponding pop-up on mouse rollover (as adopted in Acrobat) cannot be printed out with a solid linking line. But I need the printout contains every detail of the markups.

4. To facilitate the markups, after I insert some text in the line, and press "Delete" at the end of the text box (or press "Back Space" at the beginning of the text box), the cursor will automatically jump back into the line to mark the deletions. (Mmm…this seems a little difficult technically?)

5. When I drag the insertion text box up/down, depending on its vertical position compared to the insertion point, the box will appear as "up-down" insertion or "down-up" insertion as shown in the example file. (Hope I made myself understood.)

6. Finally, I hope there is a quick way to extract/print out only those affected pages in the PDF, something like the "comment summarization" feature in Acrobat. Then, when I complete markups on a 300-page file, I can extract only affected pages to our typesetter, to print them out economically.

PDF-XChange is an excellent product, and this forum is so friendly to everyone. So, though my request seems being features of a commercial software, I still post it here. In my opinion, PDF-XChange is most promising. Thank you all.
