About sharing/merging presets [Question]

Is it possible to share specific stamps, or presets (for typewriter, sticky notes, callout tool, arrow etc...)
without sharing your whole preset library?
And then, how would you import it, without it overwriting presets you already have?
I don't see any "merge presets" button when importing settings...

Hello, MedBooster
At the moment, we do not offer a merge presets function, but I can definitely see the merit in that and am passing the idea along to the Dev team for consideration.

It would be a great feature to have, that's for sure!
Imagine you are working at an office, where you would want all PDF-comments to use the same fonts and colors, that way you could share presets, without people losing their other customized presets.
If you were to import presets, is that separate from the shortcut layout, ribbons and keyboard shortcuts?
Would I .. let's say be able to export my rectangle/typewriter/stamps ... etc. so that a friend could use the same stamps and other presets like shapes and text input tools, without losing the stamps he already has?

Hello, MedBooster
Presets are indeed separate from the ribbon layout and hotkeys and such. The latter items are included in the "common" section of the settings export, and in the future we may consider offering some fine tuning on which of those to import, but for now, comment "styles" and items like the "presets" flyouts for the Headers and footers tools are what is included in this request.
Kind regards,

Great!
Would you then lets say be able to only export your rectangles, or just some (not all) of the callout tool presets (comment style example)? Or would you then have to export *everything* , and then import *everything*, and then basically just delete the excess?

Hello, MedBooster
It would most likely still be a process of exporting everything, and then importing/merging everything, and manually deleting the excess.
Kind regards,

On a similar note.
Can I share just 1 stamp, even though it is a "dynamic" stamp? Or are those unsharable?

in case you are curious about dynamic stamps I found this great video by the "PDF-XChange Editor" YouTube channel

Hello MedBooster,
Stamps are stored in stamp collections - and each collection had it's own separate file. You can share the files even if the collection is only one dynamic stamp, and this KB article explains the steps:

about this, can you simply copy the stamp files from the folder and transfer it by E-mail... (if you only want to share certain stamps and not all of them)
image.png
By the way, on a similar note, what would you do if you just would like to share 1 group of stamps and not all... or just some specific tool (e.g. typewriter presets, without sharing other presets such as shape and text comment presets)
Or is it all exported and imported together?
Is it possible to import just comment styles without changing keyboard shortcuts or the menu/tab button shortcut layout?

Yes, the method transfer does not matter, all that does, is that you have the same file in the correct location at the end.

That would require checking the PDF files in the stamps folder, to select and share the correct collection. If all of you custom stamps are in the same collection (IE, the same PDF file), than it will not be possible to share a subset without recreating those stamps in a new file. (Related, these stamp files NEED to be created using the "create stamp" feature through the UI. There is some special formatting which needs to be in place for a stamp to function, extracting the pages from one of the existing stamps will not work)

At this time, no, it is not possible to share all of the "styles" for specific comment tools. Do note that "styles" and "presets" are a bit different. Styles refer to these items:

While presets (which can be imported/exported individually) refers to the presets lists that appear in the bottom left of some dialog windows (such as "Watermarks", "Headers/Footers", and "Bookmark from Page Text"):

All comment "styles" are classified under the "common" category, so at the moment, yes, they are all imported and exported together. Likewise, keyboard shortcuts are also included as part of the "common" selection.

It is possible to take a copy of the pdf file with your stamps, and then delete the pages with the stamps you don't want to share.

Hello, KD952
That is a smart way to go about it, Thank you!

I totally overlooked that possibility.

↑ Merge presets? Is that from the ticket you created? Does it merge/combine tabs with the same names or basically create a new duplicate name with a different layout? I think it would be a mess if it combined rather than just adding the extra custom tabs from the different "presets".

Hello, MedBooster
As before the "presets" category there is not related to your UI customizations/appearance, it is exclusively the items which appear in a "presets" dropdown menu, like these:
image.png
And Comment "Styles", like these:
image(1).png
There are no "tabs" or layouts to be included in this data, and thus no need for concern in that area.
Regarding duplicates, No extra entries are made in that case, it appears that the imported preset/style will overwrite the current when "merge" is enabled and something with the same name already exists.
But yes, this option would be from the previously discussed ticket.
Kind regards,

Reset only some tabs, not all. [Question]
1) Is there a way to reset not all tabs (comment button groups), but just some?
I used to think presets = comment styles, but I guess presets is just your custom comment styles, and when you place them as a shortcut button ...it goes under common. Maybe I've misunderstood what action styles means... is it not just custom comment styles?
Is there a way to import this "common" or merge it with an existing layout? Combining tabs with the same names, and adding new ones if the names don't match
2) is there a way to import common without changing the default keyboard shortcuts?
3) This would be useful in sharing and importing tab layou
[Suggestion] maybe you could add an explanation right of "common" like you have for the others
I wanted to open a thread like this
viewtopic.php?t=44637
for us to share layouts and comment styles with each other, but at this point of time, it seems like it is not possible to import "common" without losing your own layout
Maybe you have some article to refer to for for example sharing just some custom floating tool windows or tab that you would be able to reorder and put anywhere.

Hello, MedBooster
1. You can reset only one tab, or just one toolbar, by selecting it in the customize toolbars menu, and clicking "reset" (or you can use reset all to reset all tabs and toolbars):
image.png
For the latter portion, "presets" and "styles" are separate items. A Preset would be anything which appears as a small menu at the bottom of a settings dialogue, it allows you to use a preset group of settings for that specific action. One example would be bookmarks from page text. You can also see this label when clicking on the "manage" button in the presets dropdown:
image(1).png
Styles are exclusive to the "styles palette" and will all appear here, they are part of the "common" export category, as they are considered to be a UI customization:
image(2).png
2. No, Shortcuts are part of the Common Export category.
For now, seeing threads like that relating to other comment styles, without including shortcuts and other layout options will not be possible.
Kind regards,
