Commenting tools action still triggered with finger touch - Allow Draw with a Finger Touch disabled

Post by Loki@99 »

Hi,

There is an issue with some commenting tools.

Steps to reproduce
1. Disable Allow Draw with a Finger Touch in Preferences > Commenting
2. Select a Text markup tool (Highlight, Underline, Strikeout...) or a Comment > Text tool (Typewriter, Callout...)
3. Double tap on a text/ any area (for Typewriter or Callout tool)

Issue
Commenting tools still working with touch
Double tap action performed with touch GIF
touch.gif

Expected behavior
No commenting action should be triggered with touch as the setting as been disabled in Preferences

Additional info
- No issue with Sticky Notes and Stamp tool.
- No issue with Drawboard PDF and PDF Annotator

Thanks for investigating,

Hello Loki@99,

I reported the exact same issue in the following topic.

  • Comment tool responds to double-tap even if 'Allow Draw with a Finger Touch' option is disabled
    viewtopic.php?t=40842
Unfortunately, the result was as follows.
Tracker Supp-Stefan wrote: Wed Oct 04, 2023 8:21 am Our devs told me that there is no reason to turn that feature off - as double tap is not used for anything else in that configuration - so there's no harm to leave it working like this.
Personally, I still believe that if the relevant setting is turned off, the double-tap should not respond, which is the behavior users expect.

Best regards,
rakunavi

Hi @rakunavi

Thanks for your input,

Indeed, it's the same report.
devs told me that there is no reason to turn that feature off
Well, as mentioned in additional info, other PDF softwares have the expected behavior.

Drawboard PDF and PDF annotator are good references cause they have the best stylus/touch PDF annotation experience. I mean, both support T#6903 Remove annotations with Eraser and have the immediate highlight format displayed(btw, PDFElement and SmallPDF online editor also support that feature) which is giving a great UX.

Hello, Loki@99

Thank you for bringing some attention back to those items, beyond just this topic, we do have a request for your personally.

We greatly appreciate the bug reports and wish to continue seeing them as they are discovered, however, it has come to light that the Dev team is getting overwhelmed by the quantity and frequency of these requests. Like this one, some of them may already exist; So we would ask that, moving forward, you try to ensure similar topics are not already present, before making the same request. If they do, feel free to add to that topic to bring some attention to it.

We would also like to ask you to please collect any truly new feature requests into a list, compiling and refining your notes on those items, before posting (as you often do in the few hours after posting a request now) and then post them all as a bundle, once every week or two. Verifying your requests are original, and staggering any new requests into collections like this will allow our Development and Support teams both to keep things moving at a more productive pace.

Please do keep opening a new topic for each bug that you encounter, we certainly want to resolve those items as quickly as possible, and we greatly appreciate everything you do to help us improve our products!

Kind regards,
Dan McIntyre - Support Technician

Hi Daniel,

Well, I wouldn't have posted that issue if I knew it was a duplicate. I always check the similar post auto-suggestion before posting but it's a bit harder to spot duplicate manually as every user has his own way of describing a bug / request.

I understand. I thought that individual posts will be easier to track for you rather than a bundle.
As you may have noticed, I use a template to make bug / feature description as clear as possible so wouldn't a list in a post mix up things ?
I mean, you just said "Please do keep opening a new topic for each bug".
we greatly appreciate everything you do to help us improve our products!
My pleasure.

Thanks always for your support,

Hello, Loki@99

Yes, you are correct in that normally, a single post per topic is preferred, and this request is a divergence from how the forums usually work. With regards to bugs, we want to see those reports as soon as possible so we can get started on them right away.

While the Support team do our best to pass feature requests along to the respective developer, the struggle we have been running into recently is that the volume has lead some items to nearly fall through the cracks. We do not want to miss any requests that come along from any users, but by the same token, we do not have a large enough team to implement everything all at once, while still working on bug fixes and other such improvements.

Simply put, we do not want to ask you to stop bringing these great ideas to us, we just need some time to catch up. After a discussion with the Dev team, asking for a "weekly digest" styled requests list from you was the agreed upon solution, to help ensure that we are not losing anything from the passage of time on the forums, and so that we do not lose anything after translating it from the forums to a company chat area.

Hi Daniel,

I got it.

Limiting posts to one per week sounds reasonable so that the support/dev team can work effectively.

That said, as PDFXCE is already pretty good, I think I don't have much suggestions left.

Sorry for the inconvenience,
Kind regards,
