When searching for text, don't open matching comments automatically

Hello Forum and Tracker Support Team,

I think it used to be the case that when searching for text in a PDF, comments containing the search text, for example comment text in highlights, were not opened automatically when you navigated down the search results list using the arrow keys, for example.

For me, currently, every comment that contains the search text is automatically opened when skipping through the search results list. This means that after browsing through the search results, I may unwantedly have dozens of comment popups open in the document, which I then have to close manually.

Is there an option in the settings to turn this off?

Best regards
David

Hello, David.P

Thank you for the report, I am unsure about the previous handling, but it does seem any comment which the "popup" note has ever been opened for in the past will be opened by the search pane while sorting through. I expect this was intended, so you can see the text results from your search, but perhaps we should consider some logic to "close popup when proceeding to next result if popup was closed before search". or something along those lines. I will mention this to the Dev team for consideration.

Kind regards,

Hi David.

In the next release we will change it to the following behavior:

1. when the user changes the selection inside the list with search results using just navigation keys or by mouse clicking - it will not open the comment pop-ups even the text found inside the popup or reply.
2. but when the user double-clicks on an item in that list or presses Enter/Space on it, the application will open a pop-up window on the page and show the found text inside it.

Cheers.

That sounds exactly like what I need for my usage, but I'm still seeing the behaviour that David P described above. When cycling through the 11 search results for 'high street' (with the list navigation arrow) , each one opens another popup which I'd really prefer to prevent if possible.

Is the new behaviour still to be implemented in a later release, or have I missed a setting in version 10.5.0 build 393?

Cheers
Steve

Hello Steve,

I will check with Vasyl whether that had been implemented when he posted, and update this topic for you.
Vasyl is in our Canadian office (GMT - 8 ) so the follow up will be a bit delayed.

Kind regards,
Stefan

I could be wrong, but I believe that the "auto-open comment popup" behavior has been removed for the case when browsing through results in the Advanced Search pane.

However, it still seems to be present when using the simple Find box.

Hello David.P,

You are correct!

@PeeblesHistoricalArchive - please use the advanced search (Ctrl + Shift + F) and then when you search for a term that if sound in the pop-up of an annotation - single clicking that result will just take you to the annotation in question, without opening it's pop-up, and double clicking it would display the pop-up.

With the quick search (Ctlr + F) - the pop-up would immediately be expanded when you navigate to the found result.

Kind regards,
Stefan
