Bookmark colors are wrong in latest versions

Always regressions with this thing...

The color in the "Bookmark Properties" box are the same, yet the colors are obviously very not the same.

Hello Special,

Regarding the matter you mentioned, the behavior has been changing at a rapid pace in the recent builds.

As reported in this post, the changes started with build 388, followed by build 390, build 392. I don't know how things will change from here, but for now, the colors in build 392 are the same as in Acrobat.

Best regards,
rakunavi

Thanks for the info rakunavi. Gotta say, I'm rather disappointed this is intentional, now literally all my bookmarks are harder to read at a glance...

Hi Special,

As mentioned above, these colours are represented the same way as in Acrobat so this is unlikely to be changed further. My suggestion would be to either change your Editor's background colour or the bookmark colour to a slightly lighter tone.

If I wanted Acrobat I would just use Acrobat, I suggest adding an option for having it the old way again, it actually made sense before with the contrast when using Dark mode, now it is just completely pointless.

In other totally unrelated question, is there a way to remove that search bar in the bookmark panel as shown in my image, literally just wastes space. But I'm sure this is something "Acrobat" does so of course you follow blindly.

Hello, Special

Both the bookmark color, and the search bar were changed/added due to large user demand.

The Colors are somewhat dependent on your color scheme, so as Radi suggested, altering the colors you use in our UI beyond the default coloring options is the best way to help there. The primary user complaint leading to these changes was how in dark mode, the color was washed out enough that you could not easily identify any intended color coding that was in use. Now, even if the visibility is somewhat off, the color coding is quite clear.

The search bar on the other hand, while some options are configurable, cannot be hidden at this time. I will pass along the suggestion of potentially offering some method of hiding it, but I cannot promise we will see a change there unless there is once again large demand for such a change.

I'm bumping this as to humbly request an option to revert how the colors worked with dark mode from before the change.

Some extra examples as to why it's really bad;

For the love of God please add an option. I beg! :(

It's really an accessibility issue at this point, and it honestly makes sense that if you switch to a "dark mode", that various texts should also be tweaked to accommodate the mode, please consider this as a simple toggle. The people who like the colors as of now won't need to do a thing, and for people who like dark mode don't have to suffer reading "blues" and other such colors that blend into the background.

This is excellent news! Thank you (and the team) for considering and implementing this. My options were to literally go through 300+ PDF's and alter the bookmark colors for "dark mode" (and if I did this, they would probably not look great in "light mode"), not to use "dark mode" as a theme, or infinitively complain about this on these here forums... I'm glad I won't have to do any of those now.

Hi so I hate having to keep bumping this thread over and over again, but I was thinking... And while the "context menu" in bookmark panel does solve this issue 100% for me in Dark mode, it might not look great with other colors...

This could be a double edge sword type deal, I'm not sure, but having it reset on theme change is a nice solution for it, or perhaps have it default to OFF when in "light" colors and ON when using "Dark" colors. Honestly it would probably be best to just have that option in addition to the bookmark panel to also be in the "Customize UI" section with a checkbox for it.

I'm not even sure this is much of an issue actually, not at least until the day we can save our own custom themes, and have multiple, juggling between multiple custom's, then I can see this being more an issue... but until then...

Some food for thought I guess. :?

Hello, Special

Thank you for the insight, The team has elected to leave this separate from theme as it is a distinct override function which can, and is intended to work both ways. If someone has made their bookmarks intentionally lighter than necessary, this can darken them in light mode as well.

While it is certainly more common currently that bookmark colors are designed for a light background configuration, as more applications are offering dark themes, we will find that some people configure things in a way that natively looks good in a dark mode.
Unfortunately, in that respect, the two themes do have a few incompatibilities with one another, and only allow a specific subset of colors to be gloabally "useful/visible".

By Default, this option will be disabled, and you have the option to enable it if you like higher contrast colors. Otherwise, you can disable this and view the bookmarks with the original colors as the document creator intended.
