  • Save the file TxConst.pdf to your Downloads directory
  • Open the file in PDF-XChange Editor
    • It already has bookmarks in it
  • Export Bookmarks to HTML
    • Save bookmark HTML file to the Downloads directory
  • Open the generated HTML file of Bookmarks in a browser
  • Click on any link
File opens to whatever the last page was you were viewing, ignoring the page & zoom parameters

To me this seems like a HUGE bug.
Or, am I missing something blatantly obvious and doing it wrong :?:

NOTE: This doesn't work with ANY file. Just used this public domain one as an example.

Hello smaziarz,

It seems that the file works just fine in Firefox:

May I ask what version is your PDF Editor?

Also, please tell m if the PDF file is opening in the browser's internal PDF viewer, or in our PDF Editor?

Regards.

Hi Dimitar,

The file opens in PDF-Exchange Editor Plus
Ver. 10.4.4 build 392
(Nov. 12 2024; 15:15:18)

Firefox is my default browser and it's Ver. 132.0.2 (64-bit)

Since I subscribe to many digital newspapers & magazines, I want to save them, instead of viewing them in my browser first and then have to save them. So, I have FF set to Save them: https://app.screencast.com/f7XEkHuXoWTkN

FYI - When I set FF PDFs setting to "Open in Firefox," it still doesn't work. In the example (https://app.screencast.com/33VEApV5sMNYS) The link says to open at page=126 and it opens to page 120 (or 127 of 252) depending on where you look.

Also, when creating this post, despite having the setting being [url] is ON - it wouldn't display the screencast URLs as actual links.

Hello, smaziarz

Thank you for the clarification, From the "Firefox opening links to the wrong page" perspective, that is an error on their end, and you will need to reach out to mozilla to have them address the issue with their browsers navigation. The link is well formed and other browsers do follow it properly.

As for the issues with opening these items in our app. I have forwarded this report to the Dev team for review. I am unsure if the extended passthrough that is pushed to us includes this data and we are ignoring it, or if it is being stripped out by Firefox or Windows itself before we have a chance to act on it, but the Team will investigate and hopefully we can see a fix in a future build.

Somewhat related, You mentioned earlier that it "File opens to whatever the last page was you were viewing", This is a setting in the Editor, and even if we can fix this issue, if you do not change that setting, you will experience the same. Under the Editor Preferences (Ctrl_K), in the page display category, there is an option to "restore last viewed page and layout... etc". If you wish for any external links pointing to a file you have opened in the past to be respected, you will need to disable this option.

However, at this exact moment, this option only makes these html links open the file to page 1. So while this will not fix your issue at this exact moment, it will be required when a fix is available.

Kind regards,

Hi Daniel,

I've determined that Firefox will work as expected IF you have it set to Open PDF files in Firefox in settings. See screenshot.

I had my Firefox set to download and save PDF files.
