'subtracting' background ('crop'?) but keep page

Post by Jayber »

Hello all, I'm an avid user of PDF-XCE and know it pretty well but I have a question: I've scanned an old notebook and am trying to get it copied by a local printer. They sent me a template showing which parts of the page will be printed, cut, bound, and visible, etc.
I took the left & right-hand pages, used the 'Organize/overlay' tool to grab each page scan and position it within the template's 'certain visible' margins. Tons of work, but all good.
Now the printer wants their background removed = my content (the scans) against a plain white background.
Is there a way to _keep_ the entire page (=because that anchors my scanned content on their paper format for the printing process) including my scan, but get rid of their background?
I tried and tried but I can't get the crop tool to work and I can't seem to make the background disappear...
example remove background problem.png
I've included a little screenshot...see? - I want the blue page & writing 'floating' on a plain white background on the same page-size & same position...
Helllllppppp :-)

Hello Jayber,

Welcome to our forums!
I believe you spoke with one of my colleagues over e-mails as well, and provided us with a sample of your file in there.
What we could see in your file was that you had a scanned sheet of paper with small squares on it, and then hand written text over that as one image, and as the background you had the mountains template.

What we believe you are trying to achieve is to remove the page's background so that the hand writing and the mountain logo are visible at the same time. You will need image processing tools for that - and to work on your scanned page to remove it's background and leave only the handwriting. There are some free image processing tools our there and my colleague showed you in the mail how you can start the editing process for your image straight from inside the Editor.

We would be happy to continue the discussion either here or over e-mail - whichever is more convenient for you!

Kind regards,
Stefan
