Poor OCR quality when OCR-ing monospaced fonts

Post by Jensen Head »

This is quite strange, considering that monospaced fonts are generally the easiest to recognize. Especially when these are screenshots of the English-language interface.

Hello, Jensen Head

This is because unfortuantely, things are not as simple as you may expect. The font used does not closely match any of the compatible fonts, as such, it turns to a fallback (Arial) which you can see by selecting the invisible text layer, and changing its Fill color (I have also moved the text slightly to the right for added clarity):

This is not a bug, but somewhat expected with low fidelity fonts that are unavailable to the OCR engine.

I will pass this report along to our OCR team for review, perhaps there are ways they can improve this, but at this time, I would say this result is expected.

Kind regards,
