If base contents are cut and immediately pasted as a stamp, original position is preferred, not the center of the page

If base contents are cut and immediately pasted as a stamp, original position is preferred, not the center of the page

Post by rakunavi »

Hello all,

The current PDF-XChange Editor does not yet have the ability to group comments. I sometimes use another method as an alternative. That is to flatten multiple comments once they have been converted to base content, then cut them out and paste them as stamps in their original positions.

When flattening comments, whether for the entire page or for a selection, they are converted to base content at the same size and position as the comments were. However, if you select that base contents again in object edit mode, cut them out, and paste them as a stamp, it will be pasted in the center of the page. For the purpose mentioned at the beginning, it would be ideal if the stamp is pasted in the same position and the same size as the base content.

Of course, there will be limited cases where it is convenient to paste it in the same position. However, it is the same in the center. You can use the Arrange menu to re-position it in the center of the page, but once it is centered, there is no way to return it to the original base content position.

Only if the source object is the base content and the original position and size are known, it can be pasted in the original position, but even then, it would be better than having everything pasted in the center of the page as it is now.

Howdy 🤠

I agree... retaining position when pasting in PDF-XCE is important... Or at least having it be pasted in the cursor position, but sometimes neither one occurs and it seems to be pasted into a "random" position on the page.

Maybe it depends whether you use a duplication function or copy and paste... Though I guess currently duplication is only for annotations (comments) and not base content

Hello,

@Rakunavi, Thank you for the report I am unsure how well the position data can be translated to another format, however, I will bring this up with the Dev team to see if we can offer this in the future.

@Medbooster,
  1. If you explicitly need to paste to the mouse position for any particular reason, "right click (on page) > paste" will always use the mouse coordinates as the upper left corner of the pasted content. There is no case where the position would be random, it will either be "the original content position, where your mouse is, or in the center of the visible area. This is dependent on your preferences, and the paste method you used.
  2. The duplicate tools most definitely do work with base content, simply select the content in question, then click "selection > duplicate"
