Hi,

PDF-XChange cannot be used as a 'shared' Network printer, it must be installed on each client PC unless you are runnning Citrix/Terminal Server etc.
If posting files to this forum - you must archive the files to a ZIP, RAR or 7z file or they will not be uploaded - thank you.

Hello Joe,

I am afraid that even now 3 years later our PDF printing drivers are not available as network service.
The only network product we have is the Raster XChange Printing driver and due to changes in Windows - this can prove problematic.

We do not intend to make this an option as it causes more problems potentially that it probably solves - Windows is just not designed in a manner which allows us to offer this for a virtual print driver that we feel is reliable enough to make it widely available.

Best,
Stefan

Is this still the case? It seems that I can connect to a PDF-XChange Printer that is installed on another PC ("server PC") on my network and set up as "shared" there. However, I’m prompted to locally install the printer driver, which then even would be provided by the server PC where the printer is installed. Unfortunately, I cannot install the driver on the client PC because I don’t have admin rights here.

Is there any other way that I can produce a PDF from non-admin client PC using the PDF-XChange Printer installed on my "server" PC, when printing from a program that is running on the non-admin client PC?

Hi, David.P

that printer driver does need to be installed "locally" so the only mechanism I am aware of is the afore mentioned RDS server where the user logs into that server and the print job is run within their user context on the server.

The printer is really not designed to be used this way. You will need to install the driver locally.

sorry.

Hello, David.P

Regardless of whether or not it works, our licensing generally does not cover such use cases. The Printer is intended as a locally usable application, and is not designed or licensed for use in a print server capacity. Every user who is accessing/using these functions requires a license covering the software, and a local installation is the simplest method to accomplish this. You can preconfigure the settings, so that all print jobs default to a shared location if that is the "purpose of/idea behind" a print server setup.

Thanks very much for the quick answers.

What I'm trying to do is produce a PDF with my (licensed) copy of the PDF-XChange Printer from a PC where I can't actually install the printer. Can this be accomplished somehow?

Hello, David.P

I m afraid not, as Paul mentioned it does need to be installed locally to some effect. If you do not have admin rights, you will want to find a way to get them for the install process, use another conversion method, or transfer the files to another device which does have our printer installed.
