Undo deletes more than necessary (Pen tool)

Post by humam2104 »

Is there anything to help control this? I want the undo tool to delete part of the writing I did. Many times, I find that each segment of pen writing is containing more things than I need!

Hello humam2104,

The pen input is indeed grouped into larger curves, so when you use the eraser - it will remove whole segments.
If you need to delete just a portion of such a shape - please consider using the redaction tool - this will remove the parts covered by the redaction rectangle and we will recalculate/recreate the rest of the pen shape.
Here's a KB article on how to use the redaction tool:
How to use Redaction

Kind regards,
Stefan

You might solve this issue by changing the registry settings described in the following post.

Code: Select all

[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Tracker Software\PDFXEditor\3.0\Settings\Tools\Pencil]
"i.TimeForMergeObjects"=dword:0000000a
I learned about it from Stefan in this post(viewtopic.php?p=168181#p168181).

By default, strokes within a certain time period are automatically grouped, but by setting the time to a very short time, grouping can be avoided, allowing undo for each stroke. However, this is currently a registry setting, so it is not intended for general users. Therefore, Tracker support is not actively introducing this method. If you want to restore the original settings, simply delete the values from the registry, but if you have no experience in this area and are at all worried about it, it is best to avoid it.

Best regards,
rakunavi

Hello rakunavi,

Thanks for remembering that older post! Indeed that might also help!

@humam2104 - do let us know how this works out for you!

It worked! but I just want to notify that when you add the registry dword, it gets automatically deleted for some reason. I had to add it multiple times for it work.

This is exactly what I needed. Thank you all for your contribution.

EDIT: I just discovered that if you don't add the option using Javscript command:
app.setOption("Tools.Pencil.TimeForMergeObjects", 10);
it will get automatically deleted from the registry.
I highly suggest that the support team adds this as a checkbox that says "Group Pen Drawings" or something like that.

Hello, humam2104

If you are adding the Registry key manually while the software is running, yes it is expected that it would disappear. Registry changes should only be made while the app is closed. As I test I just did this and the key seemed to remain in place without issue, could it be that you had the app open?

As for adding a UI option, I have suggested this to the Dev team a few times already, so it is being considered, but at this time I cannot promise implementation.
