Attachments pane

Post by HaPe »

When merging pdf-files attachments on the "attachments pane" are not being transferred.
I have stopped using the attachments pane because I already lost attachments.
Thankfully I had copies but if this behavior is dictated by PDF specifications
users should get a warning message when merging files and Editor realizes that files are on
the attachments pane.

I made a video to demonstrate the issue

Hello HaPe,

The page attachments are copied because they are annotations which basically are being copied to the new combined document as a part of the operation logic. As for the attachments from the attachments tree - we'll probably make this as an option in one of the nearest future builds.

Cheers,
Alex

Hi Sasha,
it would be great if users had the options to decide themselves if attachments on the
attachments pane should be copied or not.A simple Yes/No -PopUP - message before the merging process would be fine for me. The "dangerous" thing with the attachments pane is
that unsuspecting users - like me - just believe that merging files would copy everything - regardless where and how information is stored inside a pdf-file.
Vital stuff like this should be fool-proofed because even after I found out about the "problem" with the attachments pane I fell into the same trap again twice because I simply forgot to check if the files to be merged had attached files. That was then the point when I avoided the pane completely.
Thanks for the explanation - seems logical to me.
Don't see my posting as a complaint I just wanted to show you what a dumb user like me is capable of...

Hi HaPe,

Thanks for the comments - I'll pass that along to Sasha, to see if it can be done.

Cheers!

Hello HaPe,

The thing is that there are many things that need to be done, and the Options button for the Combine Files dialog is one of them. So in one of the future releases we'll try adding this feature.

Cheers,
Alex

I know that Sasha and I also know what a great product & customer support you have.
I don't want to rush you or anybody else at Tracker - and so far I never did that.

Could you please clarify what exactly you mean? I couldn't find a command to merge attached PDF files:
͏
PowerToys (2025-12-09 09-46-54)_converted.webp
͏
I also don't see this functionality for selected documents in the Attachments pane:
͏
PowerToys (2025-12-09 09-47-20)_converted.webp
You do not have the required permissions to view the files attached to this post.

Hi Jensen,

I believe HaPe was simply taking about merging PDF files. He omitted a comma that would have made the meaning clearer. It should have been:

"When merging pdf-files, attachments on the "attachments pane" are not being transferred."

... and for what it is worth ...

Attachments are now well included when Combining Files in PDF-XChange Editor, since version 7.0 build 327 (Oct 1st, 2018).

Kind regards.
