How to edit text

Post by sailtime »

Have not used the edit portion for some time and can not figure out how it works. Using build 325. If I click on select text icon in a PDF doc, I get a cross hair. I draw a box around the desired text, but when I release the left mouse button the box disappears. Same is true with the edit icon, text highlight.
Seems like a straight forward approach, but must be something I am missing in the process.

Hello sailtime,
The Edit function has a few different settings,

Note that in some cases the text on the screen can actually be an image, in which case you cannot edit this without first OCRing the document and removing the background image
This KB will help detail that: https://www.pdf-xchange.com/knowle ... -performed

Daniel,
Thanks for that information. I created my own PDF and was able to use the tools to edit, so I am guessing that your suggestion that it was not a PDF that I was trying to edit was correct. I thought that it the file extension was a PDF Document that it would be able to be edited with this program.
Is there a way to scan a file like this to convert it to OCR without printing, scanning and saving as OCR?

Any file that you open in the Editor(if not already a PDF) is converted to PDF for viewing and editing purposes, so long as it is a supported format for conversion. For example you can simply drag and drop an "image.png" into the Editor window and it will create a new PDF from it, then you simply need to run the OCR function, and follow the instructions in my earlier link.

Thanks for the information.
The link provided is very difficult to follow. The graphic provided does not match the current release so it is difficult to follow it step by step. The phrase "marquee-select the text" is not defined, but after a lot of effort I finally found OCR image and got the document changed so I could work with it.
Thanks for the assistance.

Hello Sailtime,
Thank you for the feedback on this article, I have added a section to describe marquee selection. As for the graphic in it, I is indeed the current release, you may wish to check for updates if you are not running the 7.0.325.1 build of our software.
It is also possible you are using the Classic UI, which would cause this discrepancy. you can change this back to the ribbon UI from the top right corner:

Can you clarify on which steps were hard to follow, I would love to make it more concise and simplistic for all users.

Changing to ribbon solved the differences. Thanks for that tip.
The addition you made should also be helpful to others, thanks.
The key thing I was not able to understand was made clear with the ribbon, where there is a tab that says convert. That made the process work for me.
Thanks for your help.
