document where compiled fields are not copy enabled

Post by SABESOFT »

Dear Support,

attached I submit a file. When I open it with the last version of PDF-XChange Editor (version 7.0, rev. 325.1) i am not able to copy a selected field as shown in attached screen capture (copy and cut is grayed)
The same field higlighted in Adobe Acrobat Reader DC is copyable (screen capture, copy is black).

Sincerly
Bruno Benetti

Hi Bruno,

Thanks for the post - From what I can see, this is because the document is protected and content copying is not allowed:

If Adobe are allowing you to do this, it would seem that they are not correctly honouring the document's security.

Thanks,

Thanks for the quick answer.
I am non a .pdf Expert, but maybe "Content Copying" is intended for the content of the document. Are fields part of the content of a document? (I do not know).
But if you say yes, what happens during digiting fields (and actually PDF Xchange works so)? I can not copy a text that I am digiting for myself! Is that logic?
In the meantime I have seen that also the "Export data" is grayed. With this logic I can never protect for copying a .pdf file that I create with fields - otherwise it is OK for the user (filling in the fielsd) but not for me, because I can not use the file when I get it back.

BTW: until some releases ago also PDF Xchange allowed copying this fields.

Hello SABESOFT,

Indeed the contents of the form field, is also classified as document content, so yes it is intentional that these fields are also not copy able.
If you need to copy the content out of the document, you could add a button to submit the form, so that when the user finishes filling it out, they can simply email you the base content of it, and then you can import that content into a template for review (that allows copying!).
I believe this article may help you with this, https://www.pdf-xchange.com/knowle ... rms#Button
Note that the headline includes a link to the V7 Manual as well if you need further clarification on how to use buttons.
