Saving a custom comments palette

Post by dwly26 »

Hello.
I have a custom comments palette and wish to save it as the default for all files. I have tried to save settings in a .xces file but that does not seem to save the palette settings. I have tried having one file open, but cannot find the option to not have multiple instances open (the advice for this problem in another topic). Is there a simple way to save customised editing tools, the comments palette in particular?
Thank you in advance.

Hello dwly26,

Can you please check if you have this option enabled:
1.png
(You can access the above window via the Editor's Preferences Menu (Ctrl+K) -> General -> Click the Setup... button under "Tabs and Windows")

If it is ON - and you still do not get the same look in all your document tabs - can you please show us some screenshots of what you want to achieve and what happens when you e.g. open a new document in a new tab?

Regards,
Stefan

Hello again.
I have attached three screenshots, see the comments in the shot.
I may have been unclear in my original post. The issue is not synchronising the palette across all open documents - that works just fine thank you.
The issue is saving the custom palette so that when PDFX is re-opened that customisation is re-loaded. I realise of course to be re-loaded it has to come from somewhere, but I cannot find an option to save it anywhere.
Kind regards.

Hello dwly26,
The issue here is that the default tools will always revert to their original states, In order to make lasting custom options, you will need to create your own custom styles. This article should help: https://www.pdf-xchange.com/knowle ... nge-Editor

Hello again Daniel.
Thank you for your reply. I followed your instructions, and yes, during the current session you can create custom palette tool icons on the toolbar. Great.
BUT, when you close PDFX, then re-open it, the custom tool icons are still on the toolbar - but they link/point to the default comment palette, the one you have built in to PDFX, NOT the one I want - customised and saved.
I do not know how to explain this any better, I would like my customisations to be saved across sessions, i.e. when I close PDFX and re-open it again later.
Can you please try that and see what I mean?
Kind regards.

Hello dwly26,
If you have followed the steps in this article the new custom tools should carry across system restarts, let alone multiple sessions of the Editor.
If you open the Comment styles palette (right click on the icon) are your custom styles completely gone, or just no selected by default?

In my tests with the current build (327) the selected style is remembered even between sessions, so the next time I open the Editor, I will still be placing purple sticky notes if I forgot about it. Could you please ensure you are running the latest version of the software, and then try again?

If this still does not work after an update, please send two screenshots of the issue, one immediately after you have created a new comment style, that shows the comment palette. And one right after restarting the Editor, with that same comment palette open.

Thank you for your patience Daniel.
I am (and have been) running build 327. I have figured out the solution.
If you modify a built-in style the changes are not saved across sessions, as I have been reporting.
However, if you duplicate a built-in style and thus create a new style, it is saved across sessions.
So the method is:
1. Duplicate un style, rename; repeat as required
2. Customise menu bar with new styles
3. Close PDF-X, re-open, big smile :-)

Kind regards.
