PDF-XChange Lite Save Dialog Box Does Not Appear

I am running the latest version of PDF-XChange. I have 3 licenses. It works fine, but on one of my systems, when I print to the PDF-XChange Lite printer, I see the Printing Process dialog box but then when that completes I never see the Save As dialog box. I have repaired my installation and I have completely uninstalled PDF-XChange and reinstalled it, but the problem persists. I read in one post that a solution is to make PDF-XChange Lite the default printer. I did that, but to no avail. Is there a solution to this problem? Thank you, Jesse Heines

Hello Jesse,

Thank you for the report, Can you verify that when you reinstalled, you did get the latest version (build 334.0) on your system? You can check this by opening a print dialog, and in the Lite printer preferences click About:

If you are indeed running the latest version of our software, please also try updating windows itself, as some previous updates had issues communicating with certain print drivers, and could be causing this.

Finally, if both of those are fully up to date, can you verify that the save window is not open behind another window or on another screen? The best way to check this is to Hold ALT, and then press TAB once (keeping ALT held down). In the center of your screen, you will see a series of your open windows:

Look for the "save as" window and see if clicking on it pops it into the foreground on any of your monitors. (you can also use "Windows key + Up arrow" to maximize the dialog on the current screen after selecting it).

Yes, I am running Version 8.0 Build 334 dated Nov. 4, 2019. The winver program reports that my Windows 10 version is 1903. I see that version 1909 was released earlier this month, but that's only a feature update. I did as you said and looked for the Save As window. I'm sorry, but it simply isn't anywhere to be found.

As I wrote in my original post, I have a license for 3 systems. The PDF-XChange Editor works perfectly on all 3. The PDF-XChange Lite printer runs perfectly on 2 of the 3, but as we've been discussing, not on one of my systems, which happens to be my main system. And the "Show 'Save As...' Dialog" checkbox in the PDF-XChange Lite Properties dialog box is indeed checked.

Looking at the background tasks in the Windows Task Manager, I see that task "pdfSaver for PDF-XChange Printer V7" is running. When I print to the PDF-XChange Lite printer the Task Manager shows that that task does indeed run for a second or two. But after the Progress dialog box exits the Save As dialog simply does not appear.

Thank you for your help. I am happy to do whatever other troubleshooting you would like me to do, but this has me totally baffled.

Thank you for clarifying that, it is very odd that the process would disappear immediately after starting, for this we will need to try and collect two different kinds of files to troubleshoot. Can you please follow the steps below to setup "tmp file" and "dump file" genration for the printer:

Both of these articles ask you to test the issue immediately, please setup both methods before performing that test, as we will want the tmp files and dump files from the exact same instance of the issue occurring. If tmp files or dump file are not generated, do not worry, simply send us the ones that are created, and let us know the other did not appear.

If the files are too large to post on the forums (after being zipped), please follow the steps here to upload them to our useruploads server in a zipped folder with your forum name on it, then post here and let us know when the upload is complete.

Here are the files you instructed me to generate, Daniel, but interestingly, the Save Dialog box is now appearing again. It started appearing after I killed the pdfSaver4L.exe process and then followed the instruction to run:

C:\Program Files\Tracker Software\PDF-XChange Lite\pdfSaverL.exe /tweak /show

I followed all the rest of the instructions, and when I rebooted my system I tested printing to the PDF-XChange Lite printer again and indeed the Save dialog box appeared as it should.

Sunday morning update: I didn't turn my computer off overnight, but now the PDF printer isn't working again. (Sigh.) I tried to print an email just as a test. The Printing Progress dialog box appears, but Microsoft Outlook says "There was an error when printing started. To check the printer setup, double-click the Printers icon in Windows Control Panel."

Sunday morning update #2: I rebooted my system. The pdfSaverL.exe process is running, but once again the Save dialog does not appear. I did a dump on the process from the Task Manager and have attached that file.

Hello Jesse,

Thank you for the updates, It seems that your latest post did not have the dump attached, likely it was too large or the upload did not finish before you clicked post. As you mentioned that the printer was working when you created the first dump files those will not be of any use for us, but if you can try again to send us the dumps created during the crash (likely using our user uploads site), we will look into it right away.

OK, Daniel, I will try to generate a crash report, but here's more, very strange information: it crashes when I try to print from some programs, but works properly when I print from others. Very frustrating. I suspect that there is something on my particular system that is somehow interfering with the PDF-XChange Lite driver, because (as I wrote previously) I have three systems and this problem only exists on one of them. Hello Jesse,

That is odd indeed, might I ask which applications have troubles printing on your machine?

I am still looking forward to seeing those dump files as well, with them we should be able to determine if the issue is caused by our printer or these applications.
