Combining multiple unsigned PDFs and maintaining ability to sign

Post by jconsaul »

I am trying to combine multiple PDF files with signature fields not yet signed. However, once the files are combined, you can no longer sign the documents. Please help!

Hi, jconsaul

This would be caused by your combine settings, fields are handled differently than most content types when merging due to how they are used, and how sensitive the naming conventions used for them are.
You can specify to "copy with rename" which will maintain all fields with the current content, and if multiple documents happen to have fields with the same name, it will rename them.

Note that if you instead choose the "copy" option for form fields, and there are multiple instances of fields with the same name, only one value will be retained across those fields when merging.

Kind regards,

Thank you for the quick response. However, I don't have that option in my drop down. I have Copy, Do Not Copy and Flatten.

Hi, jconsaul

My apologies, I should have checked the forum you posted in! In PDF-Tools this is an upcoming feature, which should be available in the next release (8.0.340.0) Once this is available, you can update the software and should find the option is available in the "split/merge documents" action.
For the time being, the only way to do this is to use the PDF-XChange Editor for the merge process.
We hope to have build 340 made available near the end of the month.

I saw that you were with PDF Xchange so I checked there and only have those same options there as well. Could it be a version issue?
Thanks!

Hi, jconsaul

If you are running an older version of the Editor, than that could be part of the issue. Please do try updating the application and you should at least have access to this function in the Editor.
