Feature Request: Hotkey to highlight marked text
It would be very useful to have a keyboard button to directly highlight a marked text. You have this option in the context menu, when you marked a text. A Hotkey for this option would be great. Thanx a lot

Re: Feature Request: Hotkey to highlight marked text
I just found, that in the new release you can customize many hotkeys! That is great!
While it is now possible to have a hotkey for the higlight-tool, I still didn't find a way to add a shortcut for the direct marking of a selected text.
That is: Has the feature asked for by blub in this thread already been added and I didn't find it?
Thanks alot in advance!

Yes. It is now possible.
1. Right click on any toolbar and select customize
2. In the customize dialogue, Commands, Tools, scroll down to "Highlight Text" (under the hand tool)
3. Click on the "Properties" button.
4. Set a shortcut in the Command Properties dialogue.
I used "h" for the highlight tool, and "Shift H" for the Highlight Text command. That seems to work fine.

Re: Feature Request: Hotkey to highlight marked text
I just want to add here that it is incredibly amazing how fast this wonderful piece of software keeps evolving even more!
The toolbar customization feature is just so perfectly useful! You just *did* it whereas it has taken the makers of the so-called industry standard about 10 years to even begin implementing what users have been keeping to request all the time...
Thanks and keep up with the truely great work on the best PDF Viewer* bar none,
David.P
*) Did I say "Viewer"...? PDFXCview in many respects already is much better than Adobe Acrobat, so.......

Re: Feature Request: Hotkey to highlight marked text
Well, now that the toolbars are fully customizable, couldn't we (as an option) remove* that navigation bar which obviously is a descendant of the respective Adobe bar, and mainly takes up quite a lot of screen estate?

*) or make it a normal, customizable toolbar as even the menu bar is already.
Thanks,
David.P

Well you know, as a patent attorney I must be always at the forefront of technology...
No, honestly -- I am happy and I feel that it is a privilege to be able to contribute some little ideas to the development of the truly best PDF software that is available at present.
I see no reason why PDF-XChange Viewer shouldn't have millions of users whithin short.... Ad*be Reader supposedly has some 500 million copies running -- but PDF-XV just is flat out better than most of what Adobe has to offer.
Let's face it -- if one day "PDF-XChange Manager Pro Extended"
should offer
Thanks again,
David.P

- yet improved highlighter handling:
- snap to words when highlighting,
- icon and tooltip for highlights containing text,
- undo highlights, possibly text formatting in highlights,
- multiple toolbar buttons for different color text highlighters:
<<-- Killer feature
for paperless office
- subpixel font rendering
and - creation of hyperlinks (i.e. jump marks inside the document)
Thanks again,

Regarding the hotkey for directly highlighting already selected text: I just realized that this works exactly as described by Bhikkhu Pesala - great!
So imagine some day with PXV you just select the text you want to highlight (the selection auto-snapping to words of course) and then you simply hit your key
- "Y" -- and the text gets highlighted in yellow
- "G" -- the text gets highlighted in green
- "R" -- and the text gets highlighted in red
etc...
Thanks,

They are a good few years of development time ahead of us and a lot more $ but we have a MD on a mission and a great development team –we just need to let more and more people know we are here!

I keep telling the news about PXV in forums where people often still recomment F*xit as the best free alternative to Ad*be (which actually used to be true before PXV became available).Tom wrote:we just need to let more and more people know we are here

Re: Feature Request: Hotkey to highlight marked text
Hi everyone,
just was going to add one more piece of information to my above feature suggestion (different color highlighter with different shortcut keys):
For Acr*bat, I managed to write a script that instantly changes an existing highlight to e.g. green if I only click on the highlight once and then hit the "G" button on the keyboard (same for yellow="Y", blue="B", purple="P" and so on).
I think it would be a killer feature for every researcher, attorney or scientist to have this way of color highlight handling in PDF XChange Viewer -- and therefore would like to encourage the Tracker team to consider adding this to their already amazing product.
Cheers David.P

It could be even more perfect if this would work for existing highlights as well. Frequently, I am working my way through a difficult PDF document, and start highlighting all sorts of things like yellow highlight=general piece of interest, green=understood, blue=doubtful, red=wrong, purple=not yet understood, and so on. Later on, as I get to know the contents of that PDF better, often I'd like to change the color of a previously made, existing highlight, say for example change some of the purple highlights to green.

Build 40 will introduce support for multiple profiles (a profile being a set of default values) for some tools.
