Remove middle margin for a double page

Post by Michael.A »

Is it possible to remove the margin between the both pages at a double page view?

Yes, I do it all the time.

Use the Split Pages tool. Click twice on "Add Vertical Split" above the working window and move one to the left and the other to the right until it looks something like this.

The slplit lines are a bit "fine" and hard to see but make sure there are no horizontal split lines and that only these two vertical splits lines are active. You can zoom in if necessary to see them better and fine-tune their exact placement.

Then, click "OK" and it will look something like this. As you can see, you now have three pages, the left side, the gutter, and the right side.

Then, delete the thin middle, or gutter, page and merge the two remaining pages using a horizontal merge and the new single page will look like this.

In this case, there is a bit of color fall-off in the middle due to the way the pages were printed and perhaps a little fine-tuning of the split lines would improve that, if necessary, but it was good enough for my purposes.

This can be done on mutlple pages like for instance an entire magazine by selecting the pages you have in mind if there is good, consist page alignment for all pages or if you are not fussy about alignment. I will often select all pages of a magazine except the front and rear covers, then merge all the pages VERTICALLY, and then, scrolling down, the PDF file reads like the source magazine. Much easier to take on an airplane.

Good luck

Thank you for your detailed instructions and the effort you put into them.

But this isn't what I want. As I understand it, you have split one page into two. In my case, however, I want to look at a magazine. Because I have a wide monitor, I display two document pages side by side. In this view, however, there is a space between the two pages.

Since both pages often have a continuous image (see my example screenshot), I would like to remove this space.

Thanks PHK for his explanation on how to join two pages.

I guess that Michael.A is looking for the "Show/Hide Gaps Between Pages" feature (in the View-ribbon).

If the PDF has a cover page than you can also activate the "Show Cover Page in Two Pages View".

Note: for as far as I know, there is no possibility to hide the tiny black line between the two pages.

I hope this will help.

Ah, yes, I misinterpreted your question and did not look closely enough at the screenshot.

Willy's response is much more on point.

I have not split one page into two. I took scans of two opposing pages, say pages 34 and 35, merged them into one and then done what I show above.

Should you like to see a full example of what I am talking about, see this link: https://1drv.ms/b/s!AsBVtdXZAI89j_USHNcPswH61fFILQ

This, of course, goes one step further than pairing-up pages and makes it all one continuous sheet.

I have seen what you mean PHK. (I had to logon with my Office365 account to have read-access to the PDF on your OneDrive)

I guess it takes a bit of time to merge all those pages together to one large PDF-page, but the result is finally what you like to see.

The goal for Michael.A was a little bit different. It seems like his question has been answered.

Kind regards.

Not much time really. Most operations cover multiple actions. The single most time consuming part was OCRing 100 pages, which many would not consider necessary.
