Need to Validate an Invalid Signature on PDF

Post by Pal76?M31# »

Hello,

I recently got a signed document back from DocuSign and it is saying that the signature is invalid due to the document being altered or corrupted and the signing time is from the clock on the signer's computer. I have tried to go into properties and trust this certificate on PDF Xchange Editor, but all I can see are the details and certification path. Can someone please explain to me how to fix this? I can't move forward with this document otherwise.

Thanks!

Hello, Pal76?M31#

"Validating" is the act of checking for the validity of the signature. The fact that it is reported "invalid due to the document being altered or corrupted" cannot be fixed after signing. The signature using the local time on the signers computer does not actually affect the validity, it is simply a notice.

If the validity check reports that the file has been changed after signing, that means something has changed in the document, and signatures placed before that change are no longer valid. Think of it like a duplicate/triplicate legal document. If you find out the other person used a pen and scribbled in changes on their copy of the document, that you did not approve, and were not added to your copy of the document, their copy would be rendered invalid, and your signature would serve no purpose in that copy.

When this happens in a PDF, the solution is much the same. The original, unsigned version of the file should be kept on hand for any possible changes that need to be made. Then, after the changes are made, all signatures are again placed in the newly edited version of the file.

Thank you for getting back to me. I ended up messaging the person who signed and he sent it again and the new version is fine now. We don't really know what happened, but thank you again for your help!
