Is it possible to go to the next page by a single tap on a full-screen non-continuous page view?

Post by rakunavi »

=== UPDATE ===================================================================
The issue reported below has been resolved in Ver 9.5 build 365.
I appreciate all the hard work and efforts of the support and development team.
==============================================================================

Hello all,

I would like to ask about the behavior of page feed by touch operation on a device equipped with a touch panel under the following conditions.

  • Non-continuous Single Page or Non-continuous Two Page
  • Full screen mode
  • Presentation mode is enabled (default setting)
  • All other settings are defaults
In the following topic posted in the past, it seems to be possible to go to the next page by single-tap operation. Judging from the date the message was posted, it was probably around version 6.0.319.

beckyleester wrote: Tue Jan 10, 2017 7:56 am Presentation mode was actually already turned off, but when I tried turning it on I was able tap to move to the next page. This is a huge improvement!
However, on my two touch devices (Lenovo Ideapad C340-15IWL, HP All-in-One 22-c0xx), single-tap operation does not respond. Double-tap operation goes to the previous page as expected.

Assuming that the binding is a left-to-right document, a single tap on the right side of the screen goes to the next page, and a single tap on the left side of the screen goes to the previous page, which seems to be the most intuitive operation.

Thank you for taking the time to read this message.

Best regards,
rakunavi

Hello, rakunavi

In fullscreen mode, each tap is registered as a single "next page" operation. So in two page mode it is expected that you would tap twice to proceed to the next "set" of pages. If for example, you accidentally tap once, you would be "focused" on page 2, instead of page 1, despite having the saame "view", then the next tap, at any time following that, would bring your focus to page 3, and thus flip the view to showing pages 3 and 4.

Hi Daniel,

Thank you for your explanation. However, when I operate in two page mode, knowing that I have to do single taps twice on touch screen to go to the next page, nothing responds. As mentioned above, even in single page mode, a single tap will not go to the next page.

In a past topic, there was a bug report that a single tap to move to the next page when zooming is not responding, but in my environment, after opening a file, a single tap doesn't respond at all, regardless of whether zooming or not.

I have already tried a clean install of the OS and the apps, so I assume the settings are fairly generic. Since a single tap is unresponsive on the following two touch screen devices of different form factors (All-In-One vs. 2-in-1) and manufacturers (HP vs. Lenovo), it seems unlikely that the issue is hardware related.

  • Touch-only touch screen device (HP All-In-One 22-c0xx)
  • Stylus-enabled touch screen device (Lenovo ideapad C340-15IWL)

rakunavi

Hello, rakunavi

Out of curiosity, have you looked at the stylus' settings within windows or the device drivers? Some devices have an option to emulate left click on single or double tap, it could be that your stylus is configured to only "left click" after a double tap in a location. This is especially common on styluses that have a "thumb button" on the side of the stylus, where you can push the button to override this behavior to make it click on single taps instead of double taps.

Hi Daniel,

Thank you for your comment and for your investigation.

Of course, I already checked. The Lenovo Digital Pen that comes with the Lenovo Ideapad C340-15IWL does indeed have a thumb button (barrel button), but after looking again, unfortunately no such configuration seems to exist.

I have tried every combination I can think of, turning relevant settings on and off, but with no success. Additionally, HP All-In-One 22 c0xx has only a touch screen without a stylus, so the cause may be somewhere other than the stylus setting. I will continue to investigate.

Re: Is it possible to go to the next page by a single tap on a full-screen non-continuous page view?

Post by rakunavi »

Hi Daniel,

After some trial and error, I have found that if I follow the procedure below to switch to a special mode (hereinafter referred to as the "secret feature"), I can go to the next page with a single tap.

  1. In full screen mode, tap continuously with two or more fingers. After a certain amount of successive time, the right-click menu will no longer appear after a long tap.
  2. Exit from full screen mode. However, the navigation bar in the lower left corner of the screen is temporarily unavailable, so use the shortcut key F11 instead.
  3. Return to full screen mode
The operation indicated by Step 1 is similar to the operation to access an Easter egg by tapping "Android Version" repeatedly under "About Phone" in Setting in the Android OS. The difference is that the Android easter egg uses one finger, while this one uses two finger, but both are similar in that they both provide access to secret features. I call the secret feature only because I felt like in the verification, and it was probably not intended by the Tracker developers, so it seems to a workaround that became possible by chance for some reason. Given that not only the issue itself but also the workaround is common to two PCs in different environments, I think that the case is a issue that can occur widely in general.

The secret feature has the following characteristics. As you can see, operations are quite restricted, so the normal mode that Daniel is actually seeing, or that has been mentioned in previous posted topics, which allows single-tap operations without special procedures, is most likely different from the mode I am actually seeing.

  • Zooming and scrolling by touch (pinch-in, pinch-out, swipe, etc.) are disabled because they are fixed to the zoom level at the time of switching to full-screen mode.
  • Daniel noted that in the Two Page view, the normal mode(*) should require single taps twice to go to the next set of pages. With the secret feature activated, only a single tap go to the next set of pages. This is not a limitation, but good news for users.
  • The right-click menu cannot be shown with a long tap.
Once the secret feature is activated, a single tap will go to the next page even if you open another file. However, the settings will not be saved, so if you exit the application, you will need to start over from the beginning. There was no change in the registry settings before and after activating the secret feature.

The verification procedure is as follows. As I mentioned in my first post, the normal mode for me seems to be different from the general normal mode described in (*), so the procedure shown in blue text is a confirmation of its characteristics. The procedure shown in green text is a confirmation of its characteristics after the secret mode is activated. A verification video was created so that the operation at hand is captured in PinP along with the desktop screen. The same results are obtained on both PCs, but the video was taken on an HP All-In-One 22 c0xx. The corresponding timecode in the video is also included.
([MM:SS] "MM" shows minutes, and "SS" shows seconds.)

  • CapturedVideoWithSampleFile.zip
  • [00:01] A single tap doesn't go to the next page.
  • [00:05] A double tap go back to the previous page.
  • [00:08] Pinch in, pinch out, and swipe are possible.
  • [00:10] Long tap shows the right-click menu.
  • [00:13] Tap continuously with two or more fingers.
  • [00:17] Long tap doesn't show the right-click menu.
  • [00:18] Use the F11 shortcut key to exit from full screen mode.
  • [00:19] Set full-screen mode again.
  • [00:20] A single tap go to the next page.
  • [00:23] A double tap go back to the previous page.
  • [00:27] Long tap doesn't show the right-click menu.
  • [00:29] Pinch in, pinch out, and swipe are impossible.
  • [00:32] Even if you change to Two Page view in the navigation menu, a single tap go to the next set of pages.
  • [00:38] A double tap go back to the previous set of pages on Two Page view.
  • [00:42] Close the file once.
  • [00:43] Open the file again.
  • [00:46] A single tap go to the next page.
  • [00:49] A double tap go back to the previous page.
Hoping that the above information will be of some help to you.
Thank you so much for your continued support.

Best regards,
rakunavi

P.S.
In the video capture of the verification, it was easy to activate the secret feature, but very difficult to operate quickly to fit within the 5 MiB limit per an attachment file in this forum. This is a matter of principle that I want to tell the whole story in one video.

Hi rakunavi.

In the next upcoming build the single tap in fullscreen(with presentation mode enabled) - will switch to the next page, as should.

Cheers.
