I received a very long document as a series of pages with pale text. I scanned them and they came out just like the originals.
The advance OCR worked just fine, but I need to darken the text to make it much more readable.
What is the best way to do that???

Text generated by the EOCR engine should appear solid black, if you are seeing another color after OCR is run, you very likely have enabled the accessibility color overrides accidentally. Please try disabling these overriders with Ctrl+shift+6 (or from the preferences (Ctrl_K) under the accessibility category), then take another look at the problematic document. You may find that it shows the intended colors now.

That didn't work. I've scanned so many, many pages that maybe this particular set didn't need OCR. I'm a bit overwhelmed at this point, having spent many weeks on this project trying to help someone who got the wrong end of the stick in a legal matter. I'm not an attorney, just an old geek girl- along with some others, trying to help someone.
Anyway, do you have other ideas?

If you have run OCR on the file, you should be able to select the text within it, using the "Edit > text" tool:

Then select the text containers in a group:

and finally, look to the "format" tab to change the color of the text, in this example I have changed the text form black to orange as an example, but you should be able to choose Black as the text color without trouble:
