The word case in Find function

Post by Mike German »

Is it possible to set the case used to detect a word using the find function? I have often used find with zero hits when the search word was in lower case only to find the word was spelled in upper case.

Guten Abend,

Maybe you've just forgot to disable the "case sensitive"-option.

Go into advanced search, and there you got it. You could also just enable "whole words",
so that if you search for "Schuhe", "Handschuche" will not appear. Though I guess in German case-sensitivity might be useful too because of the capitalization of nouns.

Yes - case sensitive was NOT ticked
and odr fails to find and ODR is found.

What's ODR? Do you mean OCR as in optical character recognition?

Everything seems to be working well for me

I think ODR is the string he is searching for?

May we have this document to test here?

might just be a case of not having run OCR, and the text being part of an "image" instead of actual searchable text

Hello, Mike German

This document does not contain any searchable text content, it consists only of "shape" objects, as you can see in the content pane:
image.png
In order to search for any "text" in this document, such text content must first be generated, either by manually writing it, or by using an OCR function, which can be found on our "convert" tab:

Choose this option, specify your language, and then enable the option to generate "searchable image", in order to generate text which you can search within this document:

I printed the page as a pdf rather than ectracting the page. Sorry I should have checked it.

Here is the extracted page :-
ManualSnippet2.pdf
On my PDFexchage editor ODR is found but odr is not.

Hello Mike German,

I could not find any lowercase "odr" string on your sample page, and it seems to me that when searching for the lowercase 'odr' (both in the quick search and in the search pane) - my Editor was finding all the "ODR" occurrences for me:
image.png
Can you please supply the other page where you have both upper and lower case instances of "odr" that are not all found on your end?

I could not see this mentioned earlier - so can you please also go to Help -> About inside the Editor to check which build you have currently installed?

Kind regards,
Stefan

Sorry - confusion here - there is no odr in the page I sent to you - only ODR. I wanted to know if pdfexchange should detect ODR if I typed odr or ODR or OdR ..... beacuase it isn't!

As I said in an earlier post the I do not have case sensitive selected in prefences.

Hello, Mike German

If you do not have case sensitive selected, then any combination of "ODR", "odr", "Odr", "ODr", or even "odR" would all be found regardless of the casing you have entered into the search menu. If case sensitive IS is selected, then, you would only see results when you explicitly search for ODR, with this sample document, because as you said, there are no lower case variants here.

It is also worth noting that the "Find" menu has its own separate toggle for additional functions, independent from the selection you make in the "search" menu. Please double check whichever you are using that you have the correct options set in both:

Oh - I have found a Search using odr does find ODR in the document.
But Find does not. Is this correct operation?

Hello, Mike German

Have you checked that the "find" function does not also have "case sensitive" enabled, as I mentioned in my above post, there is a separate menu for these two distinct functions.
I can find results with both functions, provided that this option is not enabled.
