Save as Optimized not working

Hi,

I'm very disappointed with the Save as Optimized, I purchased a license to remove the watermark and now it does not optimize the PDF at all. I was very happy with the results in the free version when I tested it. I wanted to optimize PDFs offline and not have the watermark so I purchased a license and now it does nothing. I tried on multiple PDFs and every time the optimized file is the same size (or very close to) as the original.

I am attaching a PDF I built to demonstrate the problem so you can analyze why there is such a big gap between the free and the licensed version. I am using the default settings, fresh installation of the portable edition and only added my license key.

Open new unlicensed PDF X-Change Editor, open the file, Save as Optimized, Standard settings: 1923 KB
In the same PDF X-Change Editor running instance, add the license key, Save as Optimized, Standard settings: 2979 KB

If I audit the space usage, I can see the content stream goes from 26 to 13 with both, however no space is reclaimed in the licensed version.

P.S.: Using version 9.5 build 366.0 portable

adding a license should not make any difference. I don't see any file size reduction in your test file either when using the defaults for "Save as Optimized" so I am going to ask the devs about this.

well this was unexpected, but you have found a bug and we will squash it!

It turns out that we do not optimize the "base content" if we detect no changes to the document and we should. I have raised a ticket around this. We will make it such that this optimization works regardless. Thanks for bringing this to our attention, while for internal use only, should you refer to RT#6348: Optimize PDF does not optimize page content unless changes were detected. here then any support staff member should be able to get you a status report.

It's good to know you found the reason and it will be fixed in a future release, hopefully next one.
