When drawing a Polygon Line, an unintended point is set as the endpoint.

Post by rakunavi »

Hello all,

When drawing a Polygon Line with a stylus in PDF-XChange Editor, the end point is specified by double-tapping at the desired location. The user would expect only one endpoint to be added at the double-tapped position. In reality, however, two points are added at the double-tapped position, and the second point is drawn as the endpoint. I have to delete the last unwanted endpoint manually, but is there a way to specify the endpoint with a single operation of a stylus?

If you can double-tap in the exact same position with a stylus, the issue will not occur, but unless you perform the operation with Grid enabled, it is nearly impossible in actual operation. This issue occurs only when a stylus is used, not when a mouse is used.

The screen of the verification process was captured for reference, so please check the attached video for details.
The verification was done after resetting the settings in "Manage Settings".

Hi Rakunavi,

thanks for bringing this to our attention. We will see what we can to to improve that. The ticket for your reference is RT#5998: When drawing a Polygon Line with a stylus, an unintended point is set as the endpoint.

As always, it's internal only etc... ;-)

Hi Paul,

The report at the beginning of this topic talks about setting the polygon line angle freely, but if you hold down the Shift key and limit the angle, the problem also occurs with mouse operations. Specifically, one extra control point is added to the end of the polygon line. If the same operation is performed in Acrobat or Drawboard PDF, the intended location is set as the end control point of the polygon line, even if the angle is restricted while holding down the Shift key.

For reference, I attach a verification video comparing the same operation on Acrobat, Drawboard PDF, and PDF-XChange Editor.

  • CapturedVideo-AngleLimitCase.zip
In the video, a polygon line is drawn in an L-shape while holding down the Shift key, then enlarged to the maximum magnification to check the end control points. Please check that the number of contol points that make up the polygon line is three in Acrobat and Drawboard PDF, but unintentionally four in PDF-XChange Editor.

If you perform a super-perfect mouse control, even with the current PDF-XChange Editor, no extra control points will be added, but it will be difficult unless you are an adept sniper.

Hoping that the above information will be of some help to you.
Thank you so much for your continued support.

Best regards,
rakunavi

Hello, rakunavi

Thank you for the information, I have updated ticket #5998 which Paul created earlier with these details. Not needing to use the stylus to reproduce the issue is certainly a curious issue, but one that we can work with.
